There is a massive recall on one model of Porsche as they catch fire.

Doesn't surprise me, it was the first & last Porsche in our household.:(
Mind you, my wife's brand new Merc spends more time at the main dealers than anywhere else.

Yep Mercs are not what they used to be, terrible rust buckets, a mates enormous 7 year old Merc estate was condemmed on the MOT for serious structural rust a couple of years back:eek:

Too true, i've seen some horrendous body panel rust on relatively new mercs.
Seems to be engine management related on our CLA. They've had it at the dealers for 2 weeks now.

Merc have a huge warranty for rust. After the grief they were getting due to trying to save money in the early 00. Any rust issues will be fixed for free under warranty. But it doesn't fix the overall problem that the metal still rusts like a Defender's chassis.

Need to buy very new or very old to get a decent Merc.

My wife might disagree with you there - brand new out of the dealers & has been back 5 times in as many months.

Sheet.

Is that just the dealers taking the ****? There is a chap on the YouTubes who has been recording every time his Merc went to the dealers. One time it was for a stuck sun roof. Merc claimed it'd need a whole new sun roof pack costing several grand. He went to a small garage down the road and they found some gravel in the sun roof channel. Took 2 minutes to fix and they didn't charge him for it.

But I shall revise my previous. If you want a reliable Merc, buy an old one. :p

It started with the reversing camera not working, then engine management light coming on. First time we took it back they said they needed a new part for the camera but fixed the engine management light. Drove out of dealers, camera was working, engine light still on. Back it went, and had this repeated for the next 4 visits. Took it back 2 weeks ago & they said they needed a new sensor but would take 2 weeks to get the part (after they apparently did a full engine strip down) so the car would have to stay there. They did give us a courtacy car but I kicked off & said we will return the car as it's not fit for purpose. Anyway, it should be ready on friday so will see what happens. Their service is terrible. I do agree, older mercs seem to be much better.

Merc were consistently bottom of the Top Gear survey, during the years it was on, for customer satisfaction, so good to see they've improved in the last 8 years

Thought it might just be the Sheffield dealership. They once tried to charge £240 for changing the auxiliary belt, telling my wife if she didn't have it done it could cause catastrophic engine failure:rolleyes:

..........but i digress, any news on the engine G?

Talking to a mechanic who used to work for a local Merc main stealer, (now not trading), he was told that no car should leave the workshop with a bill under £1000. They were also Porsche main agents, they tried to charge £36 for a feeler gauge that a mechanic broke while servicing my friends car !!:)

No not yet!
im running round in my dads navara cos he don't really use it
Im still contemplating what to do!
a new engine gona cost £2-300 then probably same again to fit! So if im puting that sort of money into it ill have to keep it and even then it will still have a gearbox leak and a whining rear diff so all in all it gonna need £1000+
then on the other hand my dads still trying to sell me his navara

Its the franchised dealerships that are the problem. The m,ercedes owned ones are good, im in stockport 2 days a week and i know they give great service but ive seen probs at other places as people arent as qualified and there is more pressure from managers.

I know how you feel, i was contemplating getting rid of mine after 2 failed HG's in as many months back at the end of 2012 but persevered & glad i did now. Have you tried Lucas in the gearbox?
