If it's a track rod end you want off the finest ball joint seperator know to man is a two pound mechanics hammer. A couple of quick taps directly on the end of the link will free the ball joint every time. Do not hit the TRE itself just the link it fits into. Directly on the end.

hi its for pressing in the top and bottom swivel joints but i have been told the seperator does the same job and the ball joint seperator above does'nt fit as we've already got one of them but it may be the wrong size tool.

apparently the one i'm after is 3 pieces of plate with 3 pieces of threaded bar to press the joint into place if this helps

Then it's not a ball joint seperator that your after it's the upper and lower swivel joint removal and refitting tool. A bit of a different animal i am afraid.

:D is there any other way...those so called ball joint seperators just damage the rubber boot...one of the most useless tools ive ever owned!
As for to re fitting king pin ball joints, ive never done it on a p38 or discoII but have done a dana axles with a big socket, a couple of bits of 30mm square stock and two m16 ish bolts.

I've never owned one. But i do have a good hammer.:D:D:D
Yeah your right there is always something that can be made up to do the job. Some of these youngsters lack the old time enterprising spirit.

I have the removal/installation tooling together with the centralisation tool (See RAVE for precise instructions on how to do the job).
The tool was lent to a fellow member based in Yeovil some months ago and has not yet been returned and he replaced his upper and lower ball joints without any problems.

If you are really stuck, drop me a PM.

we tried making our own tool but the box section we used was'nt really up to the job and just bent so i need the proper tool now i think instead of wasting time trying to make something.
yeah box wont cut it, thats why i said stock...soild bar.
As for it being a waste of time too make somthing, I must waste a hell of my time because i make all sorts to get the job done...the best bit is when you get to use them again!
made this only last week to remove a rear lower outer wishbone bush on an l322
