I had this job as an advisory on the last MOT and now needs doing "Offside Front Lower Suspension component ball joint dust cover severely deteriorated". I read the posts ion the job but still have a question.

When removing the lower ball joint, is the adjustment nut that aligns the hub with the half shaft part of the ball joint or is it removed as part of the replacement process? i.e. can the job be done with the adjuster in place, if it can be left in place, will it need adjusting after fitting the ball joints?

It can be done with no adjustment if you are lucky but better to check.

Don't touch it!!!
It's to make up for manufacturing differences and aligns the drive shaft perfectly to the axle casing seal. There is a tool to align them perfectly, but don't move it!!! Maybe consider checking the other ball joints, the condition of the axle casing seal,
Cvj joint boot and CV joint condition while your in that area:cool:

Thanks all. was planning on refreshing as much as possible while replacing the ball joints. Just need to finish the jobs in my daughters room before starting on the car.
