Hello,

I'm making progress with getting my 200TDi up to full power again, after it started loosing its grunt, but I think one or more of the injectors are goosed. The engine shakes more than usual, and there is definitely blue smoke coming from the exhaust when revved in neutral - but it's black when under load. It's using a lot more fuel than usual and power wise it has no top end go, it just flattens out, where it would previously go like stink. It's also lost a bit of it's pull up hills too. I am not using any oil (keeping it on regular check) and there is no blow by (checked oil filler cap / breather pipe and dipstick tube). Are there any other signs of a goosed injector? If I listen to the engine carefully when it's ticking over, there is a 'ticking', 'crinkling' sound coming from the top end (near injectors) which I believe may be an injector spring thats failed.

I am I right in thinking that the 300TDi injectors are the same as the 200TDi ones, albeit a different nozzle? I might buy a set of new 300TDi injectors and see how it goes with them, because they're a damn sight cheaper than the 200TDi injectors. Will it run well with 300TDi injectors, or will it cause problems? They obviously have a different spray pattern.

Cheers

I tested my brothers injectors the other day and found one was not atomising the fuel ( just 4 jets coming out of it ) lucky I had a spare I say spare it was from a scrappy that was um just sat on the slam pannel and found its was into my pocket :rolleyes:

I think the 300s run at higher pressures ( it was coverd on here not so long back ) but dont quote me on that .

Alright, well I'll do a bit more looking into it. U thought that they had the same tensile rated spring?

POS, did you find any info on the injectors? mine's doing the same as yours (200tdi), but seems a bit happier when the engine gets hot. I'd not thought of cleaning/replacing the injectors.

I've just done a search on the net and found this on another forum if it's of any use;

300Tdi injectors are 2 stage same as 200Tdi injectors, both work at 200 atmosphere on stage 1 & 280 atmos on stage 2.

300tdi injectors are Bosch KBAL 90 P37 with a Nozzle DSLA 145P336

200tdi injectors are Bosch 0432193879, KBEL 98 P52 with nozzle DSLA 145P208

so not the same, but the 300Tdi injectors might fit the 200TDi head, I haven't tried, so don't call me if you get a 300tdi injector stuck in your 200TDi cylinder head.

I haven't really found any other info no, just a post in here saying that the 300TDi injectors have a higher secondary pressure rating or something to that effect: http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f48/200tdi-300tdi-94217.html

I'm more than certain it's an injector problem. The engine is getting a good supply of air (i've made sure of that) and it's producing a good boost, with the turbo spooling nicely and the waste gate is working properly too. The only other thing can be fuel. The fuel lines are all fine, there's no air getting in and the filter is clean, so it must be an injector (if the injection pump isn't giving up the goose). I think the best thing to do is swap them all out for another set and see if that sorts the problem.

Thanks for the links and the useful info. Well there are only a few options that I have, all of them are going to cost money unfortunately. One other question I have though is this: When fitting the injector sealing copper washers, should they be installed with the dimple up and towards the injector, or with the dimple down into the head? One of my washers does seem to be leaking after a bit of closer inspection, which will be allowing compression to escape.

"the combustion chamber (ie the toroidal space) is in a different place on the 300tdi piston (its more central)

This will probably explain the different injector pipes as the injectors will be in a different place in the cylinder head."

Yeah I read that :( Then again, wouldn't that be down to the angle that the injector is positioned in the head? In the 200TDi, the cavity is to one side of the piston, but the injector nozzle is still central in the head, and it sprays all the way around the nozzle tip, so some of the diesel will be sprayed away from the cavity. Hmmm.

Will do. Well I'll start by whipping the injectors out, cleaning them and then re-fitting them whilst allowing the engine to run solely on injector cleaner for a while. I'll also fit new copper washers. If that doesn't do the job, then it will indeed be a new injector or set of injectors. I do think that it's a mechanical injector issue because there's definitely a metallic sound coming from one of the injectors.
