Thought I'd add a quick debrief of my trip to sky in my Defender.

We decided to put our heads down in a different place each night and packed everything we normally would for a comping trip bar the tent. The idea was to alternate a night kinda' camping, then a night in comfort.

Schedule:
- Set off from Derbyshire - Stay in 'Camping Pod' in Cumbria (the quiet site)
- Up to Glencoe and stayed in The Kings House Hotel
- Over to Skye night in Rubha Phoil (the Seagul Sanctuary)
- B&B near Elgol, Skye 'Coruisk House'
- Shepherds Hut, Skye
- Back home via Oban. Stayed in Best Western, Lanark

On others advice I took a spare wheel bearing kit, serpentine belt, oil/fuel filters, oils & a 10ltr fuel can. None of these items were needed thankfully.

We ended up covering 1,332 miles in total and the Defender was great! Not even the slightest hiccup.

To be honest, there was really no need at all to take the Fender as we didn't really encounter much off road action at all. The roads are actually beautiful up that way on the whole. I did manage to find a little off-road trail by the side of one of the many lochs, but the wife (rightly so) didn't want us to damage anything by going crazy!

The 'Defender Game' as we call it got totally out of hand on this trip too (basically competing with the wife to spot the most defenders). Obviously I won!

Beautiful place - next time take the ferry from Uig and explore the Outer Hebrides for a few days. Just done that trip in my Disco 3. Wasn't brave enough to take the Defender. We met a guy at the Uig ferry terminal who'd had an altercation with a Red Deer in the middle of the night. It looked as if his car might be a write off. The deer have a habit of lying in the road at night. Of course in a Defender (or the Disco) the deer would have ended up in the boot! This one ran off!

Looks like a cracking trip and one I may look at doing myself. My mate and I had always said about overlanding to somewhere like Morocco but not only is that expensive Skye is just up the road for me (kind of) and still looks like good fun

Happy days!
Loved you accommodation, done the trip in the Disco a few times and we still love it. Planning the southern Outer Hebrides next spring with luck. If you go up again have a look at Plockton and go over the Pass of the Cattle to Applecross on the mainland, well worth it!
