I replaced the back door lock of my 1990 90 with a part I got for free the first one developed a problem in that I when I turn the key the it will not lock, or you could pull it up and with little restance it would open, the second one now does the same, no guesses as to why I got it for free!

I now have to open the back window, reach in and while locking the door with the key hold the little lock lever up, this will work after about 15 attempts where it will lock to a fashion.

So first off, I take it this is a broken lock?

So if it is broken, is this the one I need?

Part:
FQJ103840
ANTI BURST LOCK OPTION 1978-84 RH & REAR
END DOOR 90/110 1987 TO 2001 & MILITARY VEHICLES £25

it just seems from that, that only Military vehicles used this lock from 87 till 01... so what does my 1990 use?

Cheers

I had the same prob with the 1988 110 i used to have so changed the complete lock, yep antiburst type, straight swap, got it from craddocks mate.

For future reference for anyone else with the problem it is just a little spring inside that breaks. In a working lock the end of the spring projects by the locking lever. You can take it apart by drilling out the rivets. Make a new spring from a bit of spring wire from an old toy or clicky ball point pen. You can make new rivets from No 8 countersunk wood screws.

I looked into the possibility of this type of damage, however, mine had sheered part of the lock clean off... I bought the new one and thats me sorted...

I tool mine to the Landrover Garage here in Sweden. An English guy is the main mechanic there he took the lock apart fitted a small spring that he found lying around , and now it works perectly...and he didnt even charge me !
Good ole England !
