So in theory if I had a 110 I could tow a trailer and load weighing 1.2* tonnes legally without having to take any further tests?

Category B vehicles may be coupled with a trailer up to 750kgs MAM (allowing a combined weight up to 4.25 tonnes MAM) or a trailer over 750kgs MAM provided the MAM of the trailer does not exceed the unladen weight of the towing vehicle, and the combination does not exceed 3.5 tonnes MAM.
So it would be 750kg max

i thought it was 1750kg unladen for a 110 (tdi)? with GVW of 3050kg with a towing capacity of 3500KG
and you would either needed to pass a B+E or have passed your test BEFORE 1st JAN 1997
so 750 kg max and if you have a 110HD its GVW is 3500kg
So 750kg trailer and load. Not much is it.

Think it's closer to 2,000kg unladen, though that might be for a CSW as apposed to a hardtop.

From DVLA;
"If you passed a car test on or after 1 January 1997 you're limited to vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes maximum authorised mass towing a trailer up to 750kgs, or a vehicle and trailer combination up to 3.5 tonnes MAM providing the MAM of the trailer doesn't exceed the unladen mass of the towing vehicle."
Still can't understand this
What it's saying is you can tow a trailer with a MAM of 750Kg but if the trailer weighs more than this then the combined MAM of both the trailer and the towing vehicle mustn't weigh more than 3500KG
So in theory a car weighing 1751KG and with a MAM of 1751kg could tow a trailer with a MAM of 1749kg the 2 added together being 3500KG and the trailer is lightwr than the unladen weight of the car. That's the theory but the reality is different as tthe cars MAM would be more than it's unladen weight.

The test is pointless. At 16 I was entitled to drive agri vehicles on the road as long as I displayed L plates (gave up after a week as kept falling off)
But many a time I would hitch on a 40ft trailer fully loaded up with half tonne bags of fertiliser And drive down down the main road legally, and that was at 16 on a provisional yet I can't tow a couple of tonnes behind a car

ah yes but as a lot of CSWs are 12 seat on their V5C you would also need minibus D1

NO 750kg trailer including load so about 500Kg load assuming trailer weighs about 250kg.

on a junior licence you can tow a 750kg trailer without the +E entitlement as it would still be under the max Combination of 4250Kg

heavy duty version of the 110, its on the options list, it gives you stronger springs on the back (standard 130 ones IIRC) and some better shocks increases your GVW to 3500kg instead of 3050KG it has to be done at the factory so its on the VIN plate its not a retro fit option

But if you did it retero fit and had receipts for the parts could you get LR or someone approved body to stamp out a new VIN?

I had a trailer that was twin axled but unbraked with a bed that was 4ft6" by 8ft6" which meant you could drop a sheet of 8x4 ply or plasterboard in it without trapping ya hands the sides were about 12" deep.Iit weighed 250KG which allowed 500kg or half a tonne Load. The axles were rated at 1tonne each.
I once took it to the quarry in North Wales and filled it crushed slate waste. (for chippings for a drive) the bed was full and the top of the pile was about 8" above the sides. I reckon it must have had about 3tonnes in it. had me mates Disco in low rangee with difflock on going down the hill & the trailer was pushing us all the way to the bottom.
