Afternoon all,

quick question please, just about to start stripping down my Ser 3 109, thing is that I’m replacing all the leaf springs and should normal use the axle and place the axle stands under the leaf springs, where can I safely put the axle stands on the chassis?

Cheers

At the rear place them just in front of the front of rear spring hanger outriggers. Hopefully you have stands with a good wide base, those little DIY ones are pretty unstable.

Can you get them under the join between the front outrigger and the rail? I have a set of axle stands with flat tops that I put a block of wood on when I have them under the chassis. But I aways have pile of blocks and a wheel or two to catch it if it slips. Its not an arrangment if you have to put a lot of side force on.

I would jack in normal place initially removing one wheel in turn and try to loosen spring bush bolts before placing on axle stands where suggested , that way it's more stable when your heaving on the bolts . Probably have to cut some to remove.

When I did my leaf springs I did them one axle at a time. Under the bumper to do the front (may be an issue for you!) and just behind the spring hanger for the rear (gearbox cross member works as well if you a little one). How much have the front chassis legs pulled in with that impact, surely that will need sorting/checking before you can do the springs?

Not the best photo due to darkness but gives you bit of an idea about the rear position, i removed and re-furbed the axle at the same time:

I'm assuming from the pics that you will be fititng new front 1/4 chassis? Dumb irons at least? You will need to support flat and square to avoid welding in a twist.
