I have bought x4 3tonne axle stands so that I can start working safely on under my car. What I am struggling to find is information, especially a diagram, of where the safest place to put the stands.
Would someone be able to visually (sorry to be specific but I work best on visuals rather than written instructions) show me where these places are, presuming I would want to lift the whole car.
I don’t know if this would effect the answer but I own a FL1 53 plate pre-facelift Td4.

P.S I bought a 4 tonne bottle jack as it seemed the best idea for lifting my car on my drive which isn’t a lovely concrete drive. Does anyone have any feelings on this choice?

Personally i would not use a bottle jack they are not secure enough, a good 3ton trolley jack with 4" jack plate is better, or 4 good ramps.

Put axle stands where the jacking point is on the car.

I put the rear axle stands on the subframe as the jacking point is near to the corner that tends to turn into dust.
I did drive it onto ramps, then jack the rear up to put on axle stands. Never doing it again as when jacking it moved back slightly onto the ramp, then as I lifted the back off the stands it came down the ramp, quickly! Not in gear but handbrake on which did stop it.
The Halfords ramps advertise and reviews to match, good for lower vehicles. Which means the approach angle is less and easier to get up without the ramp moving.

I have put all my cars on two ramps, the front always being longer under the wheel, and wood chocked to stop roll back when lifting the rear up to insert the rear ramps.
