My G reg 90 has a rear axle with disc brakes. I was told it was off a disco, but no evidence. I do have a 300tdi conversion (out a disco) too, so maybe done at the same time.

I'm getting a big oil leak from behind the flange, so I need to replace the oil seal. But question is, what part number?

I have no idea what axle number I have and its so heavily corroded I cant find it either (going to get blasted an dpainted this summer).

So; are the aftermarker seals and mud shields pretty generic to fit most axles, or do I really need the axle number to get the right part?

Thanks

Before you go changing the seal, check to make sure the breather is working and not blocked.

The 300Tdi engine came in about 1994 that's model year L in a VIN code. So, you could look the seal up and make sure it's compatible with VIN codes of LA***** and above. (Any letter lower than L up to and including L and above)

Thanks for the replies. Local landy place gave me the seal he thought it would be...

if its a 300 axle shub seal will be ftc4785 but if its leaking oil the seal in stub axle will be at fault or breather as hubs shouldnt get oil in from the axle case

I made a new post a min ago, so maybe better info there. But this is the rear axle, so I don’t have stub axles... ?
I’ll check the breather though!
