Axle breather

can you run without the axle breather in the axle I took mine out this morning and it is duff,
was wondering if I could run for a few days till the new one comes in banjo seized on to the bolt and bolt totally blocked any advice would be greet.

Essential the axles can breath as when the oil in them expands with heat the pressure will blow your seals if it cant escape.

Funny, I heard the main reason was the opposite.....reason they are wading breathers... but either way having an air tight sealed system is not good, these allow for pressure equalisation to the outside.

Hot axle / transmission / gearbox. Gets driven into a nice cold river.....Internally the air inside the axle / tranny / gbox contracts causing a vacuum. Thus you need a pipe to the outside to allow air into the it.

If not then water can be sucked into the system via any seal that is disrupted by the vacuum happening.
