Hi
I managed to pick up some 24 spline AVM free wheeling hubs from a series 3 which was getting scraped today but supprise suprise i need 10 splined ones. was wondering if anyone was interested in a swap as they are no good to me!

Hi, some people on here would lych ya for the mere mention of the f w h words!! out of interest why do you want them? I have some already fitted, but keep them on 4wd mostly. I don't seem to notice the difference. Good luck anyway. Cheers

why do you mostly use 4wd ?

If you WANT to notice the difference stick a ton in a trailer and head up the motorway foot flat down........stop at the next services, disengage hubs and try again.....notice the increase in mph.....wont be loads but enough to scratch yer noggin and work it out as a percentage.....then use a bit of logic to realise that percentage is how much harder your engine has to work to maintain whatever speed you want to travel.....ALL THE TIME!!! :frusty:
 
OK Ok.. I don't use mostly 4wd, I just started to keep the hubs, as they used to be before FWH came along... something that has kept these lovely beasts heading up the motorway, if that is your way, for some time... apparrently, it is good to engage them at certain periods of time, anyway. Probably not up the motorway though. .:drum:
 
If you have got freewheeling hubs , then you can really notice the difference they make,
I had a slight uphill climb on the road past my house. In winter i.e. when cold ,with hubs unlocked I was 1 gear higher than with them locked (2.25 diesel 109) by the time I got to the corner about 1/2 mile away .
 
Is there any rules on how to engauge and disengauge freewheeling hubs, such as backing up the landy or do they just pop straight off ? Sorry haven't had to use them yet and unsure how to ?
 
twist em on and twist em off...mine have a 4 on outer and a 2 and a 4 on inner so yer cant get it wrong !
 
Manual freewheeling hubs , you just lock or unlock when you are stopped and have disengaged four wheel drive (i.e. you are in 2wd mode) just make sure you have both locked or unlocked (if you dont can cause accelerated wear of side gear wheels in diff ) HTSH
 
Ahem, yes don't they make a difference! I did actually notice the speed increase with them disengaged.. so thanks for that. I only started focusing on them recently, as I was only trying them out when engaging 4wd in the mud.. then not using them for ages. I reckon I get about 10 miles an hour more at top speed (55)! They do need to be engaged at regular intervals anyway tho... just not on a long run. Like already said, they have to BOTH be on, (or off). What are your S3 hubs left in? (2 or 4)
