Hello,

all sorted with gear and wiring diagram etc but have a couple of questions based on others' experieneces. As said before I'm a total novice when it comes to electrics so want to be 100% sure!

-Where's the best place to earth the lights? I've spotted a couple of earth wires near the headlights, can I just piggy back these?

-Where's the best place to mount the relay? (have seen a few pics next to the egine bay fuse board which looks good).

-Where's the best place to earth the relay? (perhaps by the fuse board?)

-Where's the best place to take the live from? (again have seen a few examples coming straght from the fuse board, but where exactly and what should I defo not atatch it too?!)

-Where's the best place to link into the main beam wire and how best to determine which one that is? (I've spotted some good gubbins in maplins that junction wires together).

Thanks in advance, both for you patience and answers!

:D:D:D

I shall doccument my progress, it may well be quite entertaining!

If you've got the genuine wiring loom it should reach these earths.
Where's the best place to mount the relay?
There should be a bracket in the kit which mounts in front of the battery.
Where's the best place to earth the relay?
Use the light earth point.
Where's the best place to take the live from?
The kit live feed comes straight from the battery positive via a fused lead.
Where's the best place to link into the main beam wire and how best to determine which one that is?
The kit wiring instructions should indicate which wire. From memory you will get at it when you fit the switch in the panel above the drivers right knee. The kit comes with two switches, one has a warning light in, the other doesn't. Which one you use is personal preference.

cool. My loom looks pretty similar and reaffirms the idea of taking the live for the relay direct from the battery.I'd rather not spend another £20 though if I can get away with it!

All I need to figure out now is which is the main beam wire.

Here's my passenger side headlight from the rear;

Anyone know which is the main wire?! Ignore the orange plug in the foreground, I'm pretty certain that's for the Headlight tilting. Behind that you can see two blue wires and a couple of others. That's the headlight wiring and for the life of me I can't figure out which the main beam feed is. I've searched rave but on this occasion its been no help :(

Any suggestions? :)

yu mean one of the two posted in the FAQ section, along with the links to the Rave, which gives all the discrete colours and sizes and plug layouts?

lol Ah No, sorry! Well that now makes me feel like a right plum! I actualy found it through a rather lengthly google search. I stand before you humbled and promising that here on in I shall consult the FAQ section more before posting! :)

Does Rave give all that info too? I've been scouring the electrics section for a while and haven't come accross it.

Rave bits...

**** me and of course that's exactly the page on Rave I had been looking at to find the info!

for some reason it didn't twig that the colour coding on the diagram would directly relate to the colour of the wires, I was even searching for a key to find out what the colours stood for! :5bwilly_nilly:

As I said in post 1 of this thread, thanks in advance for your patience! :D
