Check that the HI/LO motor on the gearbox is working when you move the stick accross.
Makes sense to operate this function and use the Low range, say once a month for a short distance just to get the gear mechanism in the Transfer box working.

The viscous coupling is the diff lock, they are known to fail. You can check for a siezed VCU by jacking one front wheel off the ground, you should be able to turn the wheel, but only with a lot of effort. If you cannot turn it, the VCU has seized. You will blow a diff if you drive it like that for too long.
