thinking of changing my freelander for another. have been told as i tow a caravan that i would be better off getting a auto as its better for towing and reversing a caravan as the manual has a weak clutch any advice thanks.

no-one has said this, so I'm gonna:

Make sure it's a diesel ! Pref TD4.

I've the TD4 auto and towed quite happily with it, just need to drive as carefully as you would any car when towing. MHM is right on the button about the additional oil cooler for the auto box though, depending on how big your caravan is and where you're towing it, think it was called "air blast cooler" but not sure

Hello

Auto everytime. Have been pulling my caravan with no problems, auto box makes it dead easy. Just make sure the vans a match for the freelander, says in my manual towing limit is 2000kg but you can check compatibility on the caravan club site.
Good idea to use Millers diesel power additive as well.
Happy towing :)

yes its got to be a td4 whats the fuel consumption like for a auto when driving solo

Auto -25-27 local, 30 mixed, upto 35 on a motorway run. Some here report 30 average and late 30's on a run.

Manual about 15-20% better on MPG
