Auto or manual?

Once again I will recommend an auto for offloading/green lanes.

Ever car that I have been out with off road has stalled a manual, but the auto just keeps on going.

Hippo posted a link to a Freelander recently doing amazing things, driven by somebody who supposedly knows what he is doing and he stalled it several times on the short video....

All the Facelift TD4's have commandshift, which as mentioned above is very similar to BMW's steptronic, with manual override in all gears. it even starts off in 2nd when in manual mode like the 530's steptronic does, great for moving off in snow & ice. I also had a 530d touring a while back. I would guess that the pre facelift autos are also command shift, but somebody with one will be along soon to confirm that.

£5k should buy a high mileage 2006 with service history, but some dealers will charge a mint for a low mileage one!

You could buy cheap and old as well......then have money left over to repair it when it goes wrong! :D

as far as I know all the auto's did have the Techtronic you just pull the gear shift over to your right and then it is in sports mode or you can up or down gears my 2001 had it and now my 2006 hse auto does I just love it if I ever drive my wife's freelander I nearly always end up through the windscreen I have been driving auto's for so many years and hers in doors is a manual
That's what I thought. All auto Freelander 1's have steptronic (manual up/down gear change). Anything else has probably been converted.
