Auto LED indicator

Jumped in the Freelander tonight - wifes had it all week and noticed the LED drive selector was flashing on/off in D. Moved selector up and down and kept going off R, N whatever. Driving fine.

Set of from the chippy and it had returned to normal.

Is this just the selector sensor or something?

Problem back tonight - where the D should be is blank. Seems to keep coming a going.

Pic attached of it working.

Ref. recent weather conditions and grit/salt on roads quite possible the gearbox sensor contacts are clagged up and giving intermittent signals.

Assume its nothing to worry about since changes fine (i hope!).

Is there any way to access the connector/sensor?

when weather is better slap sum grease round the gear selector cable [underneath] un move it through selections. . . . .
