Dear all,

I recently bought a new filter for the auto box on my P38 Range rover,
It's a 1996 4.0 SE (Auto obviously).
The part Land Rover gave me was RTC 4653 and the company I bought it off confirmed that.
However I had the sump taken off to replace it, only to find the new filter was too big. I popped into a land rover specialist and showed them the new filter and they confirmed that it is the right one.
I am a little stuck..............

Can anyone help?

Aye, thats the last resort, leaves me off road till its done!

Tis probably the best solution though.

There is only one filter for this gearbox as far as i am aware. RTC4653 is the correct part number for it. Have you actually tried fitting the new filter?

Is the 4.0 filter not the same as the 2.5?? There both the same box just with a different bellhousing no?

Think there all the same. Now at least. That does not mean that the filter has not been modified at some stage. Although i can find no reference to that happening. RTC4653 is the universal fit for the ZF 22/24 boxes.

Thanks for your replies,

I had intended to do this myself but wimped out and had a mechanic do it.
He said that the new filter was too big and that the screws/bolts that secure the filter would not line up as the existing one was much smaller. I think the only solution is to remove it and go from there!
Take two!
