Got yet another problem. Parked up at the train station this morning, went to put the car into 'park' and the shift lever broke. Went as limp as the proverbial wet lettuce (the shift lever, not me). :(

Is there any way I can select gears with a broken shift lever, or do I have to repair/replace the shift-lever (or the entire gearstick)?

Also, is this an easy fix to apply? Just conscious of the fact that my car is now stuck in the multi-storey until it's sorted.

Cheers

I would imagine it has become disconnected from the cable or the cable has parted. You will have to strip it to find out what the problem is.

Thanks for that, Wammers.

As it happens, it's just the plastic mechanism itself on the button - completely sheared off. When the gearstick was removed, the plastic bits fell out, and I was able to drive the car fine...which is just as well, as otherwise it would've been stuck in the multi-storey all weekend!

New gearstick ahoy...

Which part has sheared!?

It seems particularly chunky plastic casting as (unbelievably) I've got mine sat beside me now as I look at the posts here as I've been looking at getting hold of a better condition (leather maybe?) replacement! The inset surround around the button seems to split into pieces where the securing screw is tightened too much so that's all I can see that can break.

Is there not too much strain on your lever/button?
