I'm new to auto boxes.
Why does it bang when it goes into reverse?
It didn't do it two weeks ago when I bought it, have I been shafted again or can I fix it.

ALSO...does one check the gearbox fluid with the engine running?

Ta very muchly..:)

mine bangs as you put it if i go to reverse when car is moving a little, doesnt do it if its still tho.

Will do that this week then.
The oil was changed two years ago according to the service records but I'll drop it anyway and see if I can clean the filter (Never done that before) if it's not too difficult.
In fact I'll go and check the level now ..:bolt:back soon.:)

hi landowner,i serviced my auto box and i used lucas auto oil in mine and it has made a big difference in the way the box operates, smoother etc,if you want details of where to get it at a good rate pm me.

Right,
Car not run today so cold.
Started tha hinjun and selected D then R then D then R then d then Park.
the transmission hardly thudded at all, just a hint of a thud when going from R to D and vice versa.
Cleaned the dipstick and checked the oil whilst engine still running, the oil is red and clean and is on the mark. Dipped it several times wiping the stick after each insertion (oooh aaar missus) and its on the mark.

Really does thud after a run though.:)

I aint been here for a quite a while, and am just nosin around for some info.
try this for yo bangin problem. Go from drive to neutral, give it a second, then goo to reverse.
Works on ourn.
