Hi - newbie here but been meaning to sign up for a while but under better circumstances.

Today my 1998 plate Td5 was broken in to at my place of work in what I think was a targeted attempt. I have footage of a Land Rover driving in to the car park after me and exiting 14mins later so joining the dots I'm perusing that as the most likely as I've never seen the vehicle there before (I'd spot a Land Rover) and the timing is just too coincidental.

They got in to the car without causing damage, they were clearly looking for something as all my belongings were thrown on the floor and randomly they popped the centre foam piece of the steering wheel off.

Does anyone have any ideas why they'd do that?

Thankfully the car has an immobilizer fitted so they didn't manage to start the engine.

I'll be ramping up security efforts further this week to prevent a repeat attempt.

I wonder if the thought the steering wheel may have had something like a tracker in it

Yer need an alarm fitted. One that senses someone inside it and windows broken etc. And park it were peeps can see it at work.

Good shout! Would explain why they were routing through all my stuff too including emptying boxes in the back.

Expect an attempt on it tonight as they were just checking it over to see what security you have and as most people are lazy they know it will take you at least a month to actually bother to sort something out if you do at all, so I hope you stopped at Halfrauds and bought Disklok etc,.

It's gone an alarm but it's sensitive. Got someone coming out on Friday to check it. The car couldn't be more visible. It's 15 yards from the building entrance and alongside a main road. This person watched me go to work and went for it knowing what they needed to do at 0845am.

Buy a tracker with a sim card it will text you if anyone tampers with the motor & buy one that
you can shut the engine down via text if it does get nicked ;)

Put a 2 foot breaker bar in the passenger seat in the morning then just in case they were sussing you out for car jacking, if they try it then you can test your cricket or rounders swinging ability.

It's on the drive with an X5 parked right behind it so they can try their best but it's not going anywhere but yes expecting them to know where I live and to make another attempt. Cameras are all set up on it too.

I used to have one on a wheeled loader that text me every time the engine was started and GPS co-ords of where it was and I could open an app and follow the tracker in real time, used to swallow the credit but it was bloody brilliant for what I paid for it.

I cannot disclose what I have on my Discovery now but safe to say, steal it and I will know where to come with a crate of molotov cocktails to get the party started ;)

Haha! I feel I'll be heading the same way. Ordered a steering wheel lock, tracker and might consider a pedal lock too.

I wouldn't own a Defender without having them already in my possession before taking delivery.

Easy and fast way to get a tracker in your car without anyone thinking to look for it in plain sight.

Of course the tracker is your choice/preference/affordability but things like skytag are the best way with much higher rates of recovery.

Thanks and yes agree I should have got it all first. Live and learn I guess.

One other thing I forgot to mention is the hazard light switch was on. Does that mean anything or did they perhaps just knock it. It was that that caught the eye of some of my colleagues on their way in which made me go out to check.

You need one of these..……….
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Optimum-...h=item23afa22691:g:PaoAAOSwRfxb9VD6:rk:4:pf:0

They make a lovely zinging noise :D wooden ones do break but then you have a tool for each hand
don't ask me how I know lol to keep it legal you need a mitt & ball, the ball is good when they are
running away striking the backs of legs is good choice slows them right down, when apprehended
then call the plod or don't (optional) ;)

Hahaha! Great security device.

The alarm keeps going off now even though it's not set. Neighbours are going to love me tonight. Not sure what they've done but it was sensitive already and now it's protesting by itself.

Well, that will flatten the battery or convince you to leave it locked but un-alarmed (they hope).

They may have done something so it goes off all night long?? maybe hopping you will disarm it then they come
back & have an easy pick, it be taking a couple of wheels off it or lie underneath & tighten the hand brake adjuster right
up so it wont go anywhere.
