They're not practising to nick his vehicle. They got in it to do what they wanted. Sounds like the alarm is sh*t or not switched on. These people don't have a dry run at nicking it. They go for it and in most cases only a few minutes and it's gone.
The OP has been very lucky but is foolish if he thinks an immobiliser saved the day. If the other LR were involved... He really should look at how many are listed as stolen and towed away from outside a house in day light or carpark while on CCTV.
It annoys me when alarms don't work and people just dont have a clue. Thinks they could have been with it over 10 minutes and got in without damage. Vehicle in sight and they got in and out without being spotted. Something must have spooked them and they left.

Hazards come on when the alarm sounds on most systems (Factory fitted and good quality aftermarket). Thieves need to disable them and that requires them to be switched on and tampering with them. Can't say how on an open forum but check all your fuses for the hazards and indicator circuits are still good. I agree with Hippo, probably not a dummy run and they intended to tow it away with the other Landy which was probably already stolen.
When you go for a pedal lock make sure it is a type which completely covers the pedals. Those that leave the pedals exposed can be defeated in seconds.

I mean the hazzard switch was ON rather than the lights flashing because of the alarm system being triggered. The other Landy was parked about 100 yards away which seemed a bit strange to me but will find out 100% today if it was them as getting CCTV footage from the landlord.

Yes, like I wrote - they need to turn the hazards on and then tamper with them to disable them. Then they won't come on when the alarm is tampered with. If you found the switch turned on but the lights not flashing (if I read your post correctly) then you need to check the fuses like wot I wrote because the tampering has been done.

The lights were flashing. That's what caught the attention of my colleagues to tell me to go and check my car so fuses should all be fine. Ok makes sense why they had switched the hazzards on then. Thanks! Clearly know what they are doing. Bastards!

If you can, check CCTV for previous days. It is unlikely this was their first visit. Do you have cameras at home? If so check footage there

They have pressed the button by mistake and switched them on. Yer would think the ticking inside would make them turn them oft but it may have been a quick escape as opposed to leaving them on when inside.
Stopping them from working... it's no big secret. If a bulb blows it sometimes pops a fuse. If you want to kill them switch them on and short to earth to pop the fuse. Everyone on the web knows this. They also know to remove the headlight to disable the horn.
The tratter parked 100m away... All it had to do is reverse to yours, attached a rope and start driving. This is how I tow away tratters when I nick them with ma hippo. There was already someone inside yours to do the steering.

Yeah totally agree! Thankfully it appears something spooked them. Perhaps the fact it was 0845am and more people were walking passed to work and had spotted them.
I won't be taking any more chances. And a tip off from a policeman is not to get a baseball bat as it's clear intent but instead i've ordered a 30cm heavy duty maglite. Crafty!

Because its not very British. What you need is a good willow cricket bat.
As mentioned earlier a 3ft breaker bar does the same job, and if you have a 27mm socket to go with it can then also be used to change the wheels!

Yes quite, but this attempt happened during the day so a little harder to justify the use of a torch. Everyone knows land rovers need constant spanner work so could easily justify the use of a large heavy tool!

30cm isn't that long I like a bit of distance as I hate to get snott on my clothes
I have a 24" snap on breaker bar but need to remember to remove the 27mm socket
as they seam to detach themselves on impact lol
Always wondered why they were called impact sockets

Slight update on this...my gearbox is knackered since the break in. It started being very stiff to change gears the day after and this morning I can't get it in to gear at all. Is this coincidence and unrelated or likely some damage from the break in?
Are you sure these guys/girls wanted to steal the vehicle? Most people who want these motors will have them away in minutes, regardless of day or time, especially with little to no security.
Have you, or a previous owner, upset someone from “the wrong crowd” and this is repercussions from it? Trashing your motor?
