Monday 18th October: 6pm to 8pm.
Some lowlife tried to have my 90tdi away. Wokingham nr Reading.
Thankfully when I bought my pride and joy she already had security deadlocks fitted by previous owner. All they managed to do after punching the passenger lock out with a driver of sorts...was to also mangle the door handle - small amount of panel damage. Grrr. New handle and locks ordered.
I heard earlier in the week a 90 'went' in Reading.

Next job is fitting a simple 120db alarm - fitting the siren inside the cab to deafen any bu99er - causes nausia etc. Also doesnt get filled up with mud
etc if under the bonnet. Using simple motion sensor.

My 90 has safari window guards and strong dog guard already fitted. Vehicle has an interesting history. Nothing is left in the 90. Even the stereo is covered and worth squat.

thought i'd warn others about this attempted theft.

na. But I'll check the local ditches to see if they're full of tyres..........that'll give a clue to what type might be around!

You should report it to the police. Of course, they won't be able to do much but it all gets logged and this information is used for statistics. They use stats in order to allocate resources for fighting particular crimes.

Are you trying to suggest the police fight crime? :hysterically_laughi

fit a disclock and a claw on the pedals....
helps when they see it might be "too hard", hopefully keep the oportunistic thief away

We resent that insinuation!!! :D

Come on then... lets see some results either relating to the reduction of theft on land rovers or from illegal land rovers being sold on eBay... cus... no offence, but from the public perception f**k all is being done about it

Sorry Mike & Ratty I think that you have mis-interpreted my original post. It was a joke if you read it again. If you've not understood it, my bad, I was only trying to join in the banter. I was saying that we resent the suggestion that we fight crime.

I'm not into statistics I just like to do the best job I can. I have put my head above the parapet on this forum and offered my help to try and catch the landie thieves on my patch.

Lots of cars that go missing on here are recovered either completely or their bits. You can trawl the threads yourself but this one springs to mind http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f43/landy-thief-sent-down-121679.html.

The fact is that landies are too easy to nick and too easy to find a new home for. Whilst this is the case you probably wont get a reduction.

Public perception counts for a lot and I agree with your assessment of the situation that it appears that nothing is being done. It doesn’t mean that you are right though. If we spot a stolen car you can bet that we are going try and stop it and catch the thieves. That is a one off but who knows what it will lead to after searching the premises etc.

The other thing is people actually providing information that we can use. You don’t honestly believe that if we get usable information to catch a car thief ring that we'd ignore it. Look at how long it took to get a conviction on the guy on the thread. We aren't going to advertise the fact that we are looking at a particular gang for the obvious reasons, thus it appears that nothing is being done.

As for e-bay, you can see their stance on the above link too. They should have systems in place to prevent these people from trading.

Oh and no offence taken I'm big and ugly enough to take it on the chin.:) Once again sorry for any confusion.

Hi Frosty,
No mis-interpretation taken, i was mearly venting my anger at the situation rather than you specifically :) I appreciate you don't represent the police as a whole and your input on here is appreciated, it is just very frustrating sometimes as an individual who has suffered a theft of a loved hobby vehicle / business tool / partner in life and then to find parts of it on eBay and have no one seem to give a **** in helping catch the bastards who stole it is clearly very frustrating.

I agree, it must be very frustrating. Its frustrating on our side as well as embarassing on occasion too! Its not that the cops dont care, there is just so much red tape to go through it makes it difficult to please all of the people, all of the time. Sometimes we just cant get the results people want, then when we do get a conviction sometimes the sentence that is handed down takes the shine off the job.

In times of recession crime against property ie theft increases. Add that to a reduction in police numbers due to the cuts, its going to be like shovelling snow up hill in a blizzard. I'm not making excuses, its reality and a frightening reality at that!!!

Feel free to vent anytime I dont take it personally!!!:(

Generally police are extremely ineffective and tied up with protocol and BS, there may be a few good ones but there are many jobsworths too.
Gone are the life on mars policing style and direct action.

I blame police for the creation of the CHAV antisocial anti hero's- back in the day they got a slap and knew that stepping out of line ment a chat.

Now they know they have god status as even if taken to court-hardly any great issue.

A good old fashioned kicking soon gets things calm and civilised.
