Hi,
I noticed a oil drip under the engine from starter motor area. Close scrutiny indicated that ATF dripping from the plastic burp line near the bulkhead , onto the 6th injector area. Checked autobox level, it's not overfilled but slightly below the top mark. Any idea why it's pushing oil out of that air line? This happens only when the engine is running.
It's diesel P38.
thanks in advance.

It is the box vent when box gets hot internal air expands and is evacuated from it, as box cools and internal air contracts air is drawn back in. Gently blow down it, there maybe an obstruction where it is banjoed to the gearbox not allowing oil mist to drain back into the box. Or if there is a downward bow in it as it leaves the box allowing a build up of oil in the bow which is being forced out as temperature builds by expanding air. Make sure it is facing upwards on the banjo.

It's back. In the morning I went to drop my kids to school and on return I noticed dripping ATF. It comes from the vent line, about a drop per second.
It keeps coming even when parked and idling.
Then went out again (a must be done task) about 5 KM s and on return nothing coming out of the vent line. Any idea what causes this randomly.
May be related, recently I was stuck in heavy traffic , kind of 100m for 1/2 hr, and the 'transmission overheat' message came. Once started to move, the message disappeared.

Think the later diesels had an electric fan to cool the gearbox cooler?

Need to check. About 6 months ago I changed the oil lines to cooler. At that time it looked ok.
If it's blocked, could it fluctuate the oil level in the box? Is there a thermostat somewhere between the cooler and the transmission.?
A friend tells me when the level is more than the highest , pushing oil out is common.

Sorry. Beyond my ken but sure someone knows more about the auto box. A blockage would certainly cause issues. Wouldn't have thought there was a stat but just don't know.
