Well that's another three jobs off the list. Changed the leeking engine cooler and pipes yesterday and had a few hours spare so did the leaking ATF cooler and pipes too. Engine cooler is an easy job to do but the tranny cooler is a bitch!.
Replacing the cooler itself aint too bad but getting the new pipes back in is a bit fiddly, and the oil never stops dripping from the bottom of the auto box once the old pipe is removed. I also replaced the transmission filter/ strainer at same time, All in all well worth doing as mine have leeked for about 3-4 weeks and coated the underside with oil. Time for Gunk and hosepipe me thinks. When running the pipes for engine cooler i managed to drop one end of the pipe on the clear fuel pipe from filter to pump and break the fitting. Another £23 on the bill but all sorted now. Engine oil cooler took around 2-2,1/2hrs inc pipes, oil and filter change and ATF cooler took about 3-3,1/2hrs including pipes, oil and filter change.:)
Final jobs on the list are renew rear diff and panhard rod. A job for next weekend.:D

Ant, got to change at least 1 of each of engine/g/box pipes( leaking from where steel pipe goes to hose ). where did you get em from and £s if you dont mind. Seen a couple on Fleabay and am quite close to Beamends in Dilhorne who advertise em ?

Busy man Ant.
You are an optimist when you say "Final jobs"-with a P38 who are you kidding??????????????
Hehe, what i meant was final jobs on the "present" to do list, a whole new ball game tomorrow.:D

Got the Tranny cooler pipes from dealer, not cheap £156 for the 2 and the engine cooler pipes from flebay £148 for pipes and cooler.

:doh:Must be better quality then Ant, others now seem cheap and nasty and maybe not worth the hassle unless they guarantee em for a few years !!

You would think so at the price of em but my logic, or lack of was that if the cheapo engine cooler pipes fail they are easy to replace, the ATF cooler pipes are a cow to change and a messy job too so i went for dealer in the hope that they will last as long as the originals.

Replacing the steel cooler pipes is quite rare. The cooler itself perhaps is more common. Problem area tends to be physically removing the connections to the coolers-both ATF & engine-as the nuts "Weld" themselves to the ally threads and tend to strop the ally and clog the nut thread.

I'm changing the ATF cooler and pipes, autobox filter and aft, engine oil and air filters this Saturday and will be flushing the radiator as makes sense to do at the same time.

Got RAVE at the ready but any hints or tips would be useful.

Printed off a few threads about clearing airlocks but not much about atf cooler other than fiddly pipes.

Then have to try and do all 4 airbags on sunday so I can drive the car from Manchester to London,
