Hi Gav

Steve
I have a discovery 1 300tdi 5 door I'm looking to replace sills with 120Mm X 60mm X 3mm box sections unfortunately I've started to cut out old sill but struggling especially at front where A frame and body mounts are an ideally need someone near by who wants to earn a bit of cash

Hi Gav
I did mine a year ago ! Just been out to remind mi sen how I did them:rolleyes::confused:
To right you need to take front wings OFF Then you

FU*KIN internet:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
To do right you need to take front wings OFF, you can then get to A frame , As for body mounts I had to make new out of 4x4 box & weld to new sills!
Its not a bad job to do just a pain if you have to weld inner seam layed under the motor ! I'm lucky that dads got a pit in his garage:p
If your body mounts are good then leave as much metal as you can !! I cut mine out with thin disc in grinder !

Hope this helps

I'm tight too but I thought go with the easiest route and buy ready made, I love my landy to bits but it's costing me a fortune and soon losing my patience with it :(

And a bit of thought on how your going to tackle the job !:rolleyes:Mmmm
How good a welder are you ??

Not great bought one about 3 months ago still playing with any old crap ican find to play with so slowly learning but have got a mate that welds and he slowly teaching me as due to health reason can't do the work himself

I use it with gas as told it easier that way
That's right ! 1 of the secrets to welding with mig is they do NOT like RUST ! get the job as CLEAN as you can ! And if you will take my advice use 2mm plate ! Yes it takes a bit more bending but you can play the heat & wire onto new plate & not BLOW as many holes into your truck !016.JPG 012.JPG That's using 0.8 mig wire

Thanks for all the tips and I wad planning on using thicker metal of around 2 mm as I thought go thicker not only is it easier to weld but lasts that little bit longer which is a bonus as once done I don't want do it again in couple years

have a looksee at the last page of my 'big stripdown and weld' thread, and scroll backwards.

I've just replaced the n/s sill with box.

Another tip DON'T try butt welds they are a waist of time ! 10/20mm OVER the top & if poss seal from underneath 022.JPG 031.JPG The plate in the 2nd picture is 6" wide & goes under the side panel towards the outer wing with a gap left for the rubber seal ! the Jagger'd edge is cut out leaving a nice edge underneath but you can't see because of Flash band !
