So, my window ECU thingymabob needed resoldering. So I pulled it out, resoldered it and plugged it in before mounting and it worked fine.

Mounted it in its case, glovebox back in, and it dont work!

Pulled it out again, resoldered it just in case and it still dont work. Noticed that i'd bollocksed my fresh joint so redone them again and they still dont work.

Went and bought an untested one, tried it and it works. Mounted it while it was still plugged in with the ignition on, something shorted out, the alarm goes off and but now the windows still dont work again.

Do you.....

A) Reckon its me being hamfisted with my fingers when connecting the plugs and breaking the soldered joints?

B) Think i'm just unlucky

C) Assume theres another problem causing the intermittant working of the windows...

or

D) Think its time to do away with electric windows and look for a manual conversion?

:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

And its MOT time weds so trying to get all the loose ends sorted asap really:doh:

Just been and purchased another window ECU from a breakers, I removed it very delicatly from a S reg 300TDi GS....gets it back, plugs it in and still no windows. Compare it to my old ones, (2 I have now!) and its seems like new one is different to the other 2.

On the old ones theres 2 relay type boxes on the board, on the new one theres 3 smaller black ones instead :mad:

On the offchance, is there anything simple that would stop the windows from working?

I have a working (tested) set of switches, I have checked the 2 window fuses in the under dash fuseboard and also checked the fuses in the main board under the bonnet. Theres not something else I have overlooked is there such as another hidden fuse or the like?
