Oh the con is much much bigger than that

You may be interested to know that from its foundation in 1694,
the Bank
of England has issued notes promising to pay the bearer a sum of
money.
For much of its history the promise could be made good by the Bank
paying
out gold in exchange for its notes. The link with gold helped to
maintain
the value of the notes, although the link was sometimes suspended,
for
example in wartime. The link with gold was finally broken in 1931
and
since that time there has been no other asset into which holders
have the
right to convert Bank of England notes. They can only be exchanged
for
other Bank of England notes. Nowadays public faith in the pound is
maintained in a different way - through the Bank of England's
operation of
monetary policy, the object of which, by statute, is price
stability"

Liabilities exceed it's assets and it's value is public faith

Well, I've learnt something new. So if I'm understanding this right, the Bank of England is lying about their promise to pay because they can't back it up with anything, like gold for instance.

but you can exchange sterling notes for other countrys money at the appropiate exhange rate.Aint these backed up with gold reserves?

Most countries run fiat money system, if you can go for gold system then your trading a fictional value for a physical item with implied value.

If there was a life threatening situation-shelter, food and water would be of highest value.
Gold is of no use if people see as no value at the time.

If we look at the situation then your working for an implied value- so while those with stores of other things less affected by confidence are in effect making gains as people work for less implied value.

So why hasn't the world reset the fiat system of confidence value?
Simple
1) People holding tangible materials would loose their gain- that's why your paying more fiat money.
2) Risk of hypa inflation like germany if illusion shattered.

Turn it another way you get arrested and jailed- instead of thinking my freedom is taken from me-think they are sheltering and feeding me
Physiologically you on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohandas_Karamchand_Gandhi level.

If there is no fear the illusion is broken.

Think Poll tax

If accy sirus or ratty wish to delete this I will understand, if it worries them but the [nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxEN1FDteaE&feature=player_embedded"]YouTube - Lawful Rebellion - Roger Hayes challenges Liverpool City Council, Birkenhead 7th March 2011[/nomedia]
has been removed by the government.

There are mirrors of it on youtube if you search and it strikes me that the government has removed lawful protest information and right to free speech.

By removing it they have empowered it and given it legitimacy instead of ignoring it as fantasy.

i reckon a good example of that is steve gough, the ex maine who gets jailed for 6 months in scotland for refusing to wear clothes, police are waiting to rearrest him ever time he gets out the prison gates.

Ghandi or Nelson Mandella come to mind.

Abusive power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely- poll tax was class warfare at it's very best and a revolt removed it.

Statutised theft on an implied contract with judges who won't swear on their oaths.

Social conditioning and control of population.

Plutonium in children's teeth is a crime, but not one person has been held responsible.
