the customer in question is a mr james hornby who asked me to come out and diaganose a non starting p38a his fathers. it had a failed drivers door latch and a failed becm.
these were replaced with genuine dealer parts supplied from sturgess land rover that was a few months ago. i went back a few days ago as it would not start again again the door latch has failed and so too has the becm now as the customer has failed to give me all the details of what is wrong claims it was on a battery conditioner and that the battery has never been disconected!
i have tryed to comunicate with regards to this claim as he feels it is all my fault and previous issues with the vehicle are also my fault!
to recap as i am very open in what i do and fett can vouch for that!
he had a kenlowe fan kit fitted and the timer switch failed which replaced free of charge when we had time available to book in and repair and he is still not happy!

the man is a car trader and classes him self as a good customer after the barrage of abuse and threatening behaviour he has just threatened me with down the phone i feel it is only fair that i present my side of the story!

to be even more open i have openb person who is taking me court.
not three as can be seen he exagerating the point and i feel his claims are totaly unjustified

the temp bodge is when i was doing the kenlowe fan we found the rad leaking and to save money i gave him a good known rad free of charge but it was for a thor engine not gems so the top hose inlet is on the wrong side to the gems rad and he was happy for this to be fitted so not a bodge but a honest guy trying to help

well well mr armson ae,you really are showing your true colours now arent we....right i wasnt going to do this, but after reading the total lie's you have written to try and save face i will list what has been done to my fathers range rover over the past 18 months and list the faults and so called repairs done by you, first i will tell the truth about the above lie's you have told...1.you came out to my fathers range rover which is a late 1997 4.6 hse, when it wouldnt start due to it not accepting the eka code...i called you as usual and you came out a week later, you told us the becm had gone into lock out and was coming up as lhd french manual diesel car...you said this was caused by a faulty drivers door handle/lock...you explained that you only fit BRAND NEW BECM FROM LAND ROVER as you wouldnt fit recon one's due to the trouble you have had with them in the past...you quoted us £800 for a BRAND NEW BECM and drivers door lock...as usual we told you to go ahead with it as i thought at the time we had a good relationship and we trusted what you allways told us...so off you went and got the parts and came back and fitted them...couple of hours later the p38 was up and running again...couple of days later the p38 started playing up with the immobiliser no going off straight away...so 3 months later the p38 wouldnt start yet again..usual message on the dash.ENGINE LOCK,so i called you as usual and you told me it was more than likly the becm has locked out again and it would be at least 2 weeks before you could come out to us...cutting along story short you came out 3 weeks later(2nd december 2012) after 8 phone calls and several messages from me,you called and said you was on your way,,,great i thought ...car will be up and running in no time, you turned up,plug your laptop in and told me the becm had locked itself out yet again and it was the drivers door yet again that had done it...you then told me to fix it i would have to pay you for yet another becm if i wanted the car up and running again while you sent the one you supplied back to land rover so they could see if its a fault with the becm or my car that had done it....so off you went and left me with a p38 that was a non runner...i was very very upset.because we paid you £800 cash(as my father doesnt beleave in writing cheques out) to do the job in the first place and it played up 4months later...so i thought this is not right,so after searching the internet i found someone who could come out the very next day..the guy turned up,plugged his machine in and yes it had gone into lock out....but guess what..there was nothing wrong with the drivers door switch...he took our becm out, reprogrammed it to our car with our data on,fitted it back in and it struck up like a brand new pin...but in stripping it down we where shown it was a brand new becm like you told us you only fit,it actually was a reconditioned unit from a 1997 vehicle,so can you now imagine how crap we felt after being lied to by someone we thought we could trust...best part is you are now trying so say you told us it was a factory reconditioned unit you fitted and only fit..so there is lie number 3..as land rover do not recondition becem in the factory they buy them in from someone who does it for them...right now job number 2 from the above.....stuart came out to our p38 when my father noticed water spraying out from the bottomof the p38...on closer inspection you told us it was the water pump leaking...so you gave us a price and yet again as usuall we told you to go ahead with the job with out any hassle as we at the time trusted every word you said, you came back fitted the water pump but after trying to undo the bolts from the bottom of the radiator you snapped the bolts holding the rad in,which in turn started leaking,my father beleaves you we alittle heavy handed in removing the bottom bolts and didnt even use any spray to try and prevent this happening...any cut another long story straight you said you had a rad back at you workshop and you would bring it and fit it for us...so off you went and then cameback...you fitted the rad but it wasnt untill you went to fit the top hose on that you released the rad was from a later type p38 and we had a1997 p38...which meant the tp hose was on the wrong side and completely the wrong shape...after some qick thinking you cut the top hose and turned it round and made it fit....you said dont worry you will come back and change this at a later date...this meant tho we could not have the fan cowling top fitted back on as it should be as the pipe was on the wrong side...this is still like this to this day and we have told you time and time again about it but you just dont want too know...this and the total lies over the becm where the last straw...we have allways paid you in full and the fullamount every time you have done a job for us and yes you have done a fair few jobs for us...but we have noticed over the months prices have been going up and customer care and relations have been going down...now do i have to list the other 2 jobs done to our p38 that we had trouble with or not...as for being a car dealer...what the hell has that got to do with the price of bacon....you also know i am a self employed plumber and have been for over 20 years and i pride myself on customer care....my moto is little and often....try it some time..i really thought we had sorted this out on the phone today after you decided to listen to waht i had to say and not over talk me but no...you did the above...yes i did get nasty on the phone, but when i find people telling me lie after lie,it does tend to press the wrong buttons with me...i hope you will do the right thing and hold your hands up to what you have done...and keep your word and send my father all the copies of the invoices for work you have carried out to his car..you know how much that p38 means to us and how we thought alot of you...customer care gets you more places than money ever can..i have said my bit and i will leave it at that,as long as you do what you have told my father you will do....END OF THE MATTER I HOPE

oh and dopey, stuart has done 15 jobs for us in total...but only 4 of them on the range rover, which were at a cost of well over £3000,the other jobs where on other vehicles we had and need to be repaired for us to sell them...and le tme say this i gace stuart alot of work and he allways craked on with the job in the early days...that was the days when he was fully mobile...he was was the only one that would put a pt cruiser back togther when no one else would...gave him abox of bits and 5 hours later it was running,i really do beleave he has taken on far to much work and customers are suffering

I have read the above posts over and over and this doesn't sound like the Stuart I have used and will continue to use in the future. I to knew him when he was fully mobile and has looked after my car for over two years including a recent engine rebuild. The things I have always liked about him is that he takes the time to explain things about the car and lets you get involved in his work, which is nice for people like me with limited knowledge of P38's
I have no agenda just saying my bit for someone who has been very helpful over the recent years and who I have no hesitation in recommending to users of this forum.
Im sorry to hear about your problems with your fathers car,but to call him a robbing so and so, not in my experience
I hope you have a quick resolution to for problems.

And i too hope these two people can resolve this situation.

These things happen i am afraid.
Had a 1962 series with a perkins 4203 diesel fitted.
Anyhow it was dragging air in to fuel system when running and causing a vacum in the injectors.
So wouldnt start whem cold.
Took it to one of the best independants in sheffield who initially said that it was the lift/ primer pump at fault.

Anyhow they changed the pump and glass inspection bowl on the pump at a cost of 100 pounds or so!
The fault was still there when i got it home so it went back
And brass fuel lines replaced on all fuel system.

Got it home and fault still there!

So it went back and back and back again !

Bill was now about 500 quid.
This was lots of money at the time and i was a poor electrical apprentice so this was hurting bigtime.

Anyhow
To cut a long story short cause im sure im boring you all.

I took the landy to hemingways in sheffield who told me straight away that the lift/ primer pump was knackered?
I said it cant be its brand new. I even showed them the reciets.
They said ok we will look at other things but they had a second hand pump lying around and they changed the pump anyway.

Guess what ! Fault cured .
They told me that the so called brandnew pump that had been fitted wasnt new . It had just undergone a dip in the degrease bath. But the inspection glass was new.

The so called new pump, ie my original pump had a hairline fracture in it that was sucking up air.

So i was not a happy chap.
A trip to the original independants with a baseball bat in the car got me my money back.

**** happens!
Lol

I used Stuart earlier this month. Did a great job rebuilding my rear suspension an sorting out the brakes/abs all round.
I'm happy with his work and his advice on the long term maintenance of my 98 discovery 3.9v8 LSE.
To that end I will be using him again soon.
