It's easy to underestimate the importance of using the right oil and easy to buy the wrong oil so i thought these different lube advisor tools would help us, a lot of you already use them but some might not know about them.

Stuff that's in the handbook ...

My 97 300tdi handbook was printed at least 11 years ago

sometimes oils that are originally specified are superceded to higher spec or different viscosity ones so the oils in my handbook will be out of date

the lube advisor tools are always up to date so worth using

best regards

snigger :D Sir Spamalot. you eat ham and jam and spamalooootttt.

Wouldnt realy of bothered me cept I was trying to read a post in iSpy and you kept bumping the screen down.

sorry

i don't bother looking in the series, freelander and range rover sections so i thought others might do the same

I'm the same. I have enough on my plate to keep 2 Discos running so I thank you for posting this.

There's not a lot new here but the accessibility is quick and I can now quote product names as well as specifications, which could come in handy, so thanks again.

Cheers
Dave

By virtue of the fact that oil technology moves on whereas the original print in the handbook does not.

Valid point methinks. :praise:

ive just checked what oil my 96 lpg v8i disco would need and it told me Castrol Edge 0W-30, now @ £44 for 4L is it worth the money, i plan an oil change early next year i'll need 6.7L and a new oil filter, thats about 80 quid! seems a bit steep to me. At the mo i use Unipart 10W/40 semi synthetic @ £15 for 5L.

It seems llike crazy and unneccsary money to spend on an oil-change to me.

If I were in your shoes I would be shopping around for 5w-30 fully synth oil. You should be able to get that for about £20-25 for 5 ltrs, this time buy 2 cans, so next time you'll only need to buy one !!

I get my stuff from Carrefour, it's 23 euros for 5ltrs, so that's about £25 isn't it :drum:

Cheers & good hunting

Dave

Right i've just double checked Castrol and they do list their Edge product as the premium recommendation but underneath is the standard oil which is Magnatec 10w-40, Shell list Helix Plus 10w-40 which is a better oil and you can usually pick up from one of their fuel station for about 25 quid for 5 ltrs.
