My half shaft is leaking so picked up a set on ebay. But the ends are not the same. They are 10 spline but i didnt want to remove the shaft to see if maybe its thicker or something, then have to change the oild twice rather then once.

Any ideas??

Well its only the flange bolts you have to remove to get the shafts out takes a couple of minutes max, shafts you have bought are the later design the ones you have fitted are earlier, not sure what year they changed, but my 93 has the later type, mates 87 has the earlier type like yours.
PPs you dont need to change them to cure a leak its either the gasket or the rubber cap, both are peanuts.
No need to change or touch the oil just jack up one side at a time

Ah right, Well mine is a 92 so i guess its around that time they changed. Ye i know it only takes 2 mins to remove but didnt want to have to top the oil up twice (i'm tight :D). I have the damaged one (same that is fitted) to look at and see if it was a gasket or rubber cap that needed changing. But i coulnt seem to find what it would be. Thats why i just bought another. So if i remove the shaft, then remove the end cap of the shalf will i find a gasket?
Sorry if i'm not making much sense, writing is not my strong point lol :D

Ok scrap that, i've just seen a video on youtube of how to change wheel bearings on a defender and he removed the cap of the end of the shaft. It was the front but i guess its all the same ish. I'm guessing its going to be the cap and not the gasket as thats where i'm getting oil from.

Also metric and non metric Domed halfshafts if they're early ones you will have fun drilling the holes to fit your bolts!! Hehe If theyre later ones then they should fit but you may well need later 13mm headed bolts as trhe heads are smaller and fit in the domed headed halfshafts.
