hi all we just recently finished our first ever 110 td5 defender project it came out real nice but in comparason to all our other landys ( mostly 300tdi defenders and a couple of automatic td5 discos ) this 110 is very poor at acceleration but runs very well on the motorways 80 + MPH . but i cant help thinking they made it this way(with a rev or speed limiter) because its almost like it wants to go but you cant run the gears for very long and when you clutch down to change gears the engine revs off and then back to normal , but if you dont run the gears and just go with the flow it goes well ,but not like my 300tdi 90 . the td5 discos we had were pure power and acceleration no complaints there :D ..
so after all this are they really made this way or is something wrong with it ? any info or advice will be nice

sounds like a MAF sensor problem to me ;)

looks cracking though ;):D
thanks man
Sounds like cluch slep if engine revs and road speed creeps up slower than usual thinks I even so i am a tdi man.
no the clutch is good no slip
Something is wrong. A Defender should accelerate quicker than a Disco as the gearing is lower. Top speed of the Disco would be higher though.
i know thats what i thought
dont suppose its got a disco trani/gearbox per chance
i dont think it does it seems the orignal box and transfer case

but i may be describing the problem wrong. my best try would be to say it acclerates like if your in low range on the motorway ( no its not in low range) the gears just seem to need changeing very quickly to keep the engine from overreving

thanks man

In that case then I'd agree with Angelo - your clutch is slipping. Its the only way the engine can rev with out a corresponding change in speed.

if you can get under it look on the back of the transfer box should be a sticker there by the oil filler bung get back to us with that number (sure someone on here will know which is which between fender and disco )

na it only overrevs when you clutch down to change the gear .it goes exactly like this ...pull of in 1st accelerate press clutch then the engine revs off change to 2nd and accelerate clutch then over rev and so on

will do but im pretty sure its got the defender box . because my 300tdi 90 has a disco box and transfer case in it i know the diffrence in drive

well i think ive got it now , it was driver error:eek: , if i drive it like i drive my 300 tdi it does this overreving thing but if i lift my foot completely off the acc pedal while changeing the gears its much better. but if i just slightly touch the pedal whlie changing the gear it does overrev . guess i just have to get used to it

TD5 throttle is a tad more sensitive than the tdi. Something to do wiv fly by wire and not cable.

I agree! It's taken me ages to get used to this fly by wire deal. My old 200TDi was much easier to drive. I seriously think they have got the electronic accelerator pedal wrong. I just cannot drive the damn thing on rough ground, as any slight touch of the pedal starts the Landy kangaro-oing.

You can have the ECU settings changed to desensitize the throttle. During normal driving in high range the throttle pedal only uses about a third of its travel between off and full. When you switch to low range the ECU changes its settings so that full pedal travel is used between off and full. Gary at TD5Alive (now Alive Tuning) changed mine so that the pedal uses full travel all the time and it makes a big difference to driveability.
The other tip is to wedge your knee against the door when driving over rough ground to stop your foot bouncing on the pedal.

the ecu has to pedal maps, the engine and throttle are more sensitive in hi range, try unpluging the hi / lo sensor, it will have alot longer throttle pedal
