Hi folks

I am looking to replace my Discovery II with a Range Rover and, for a little peace of mind, I am considering buying an 'approved, used' vehicle from Land Rover.

Does anyone have any experience of buying an approved vehicle and, in particular, dealing with any warranty issues after purchase? Is it a relatively safe way to buy a vehicle that some have regarded (whether fairly or unfairly) as a money pit?

Thanks for any advice.

My first P38 was bought at 4 years old from a Main Dealer.

The thing was spotless with a Full LR Stamped history (not by the dealer I bought it from..!!), 60k ish miles, run smooth and as sweet as a nut.

Picked it up and 6 miles down the road, the Alternator packed in....phoned the Dealer and they recovered and repaired FOC.

8 months later the EAS started playing games, Dealer not interested as it was out of the 6 month warranty supplied with the vehicle. But did relieve me of £165 of my hard earned to plug it in to the T4 and let me know what the issue was. (this was before the likes of RSW etc and the Rovacom from BBS was still pricey).

Replaced a height sensor, and all was well for another few months , then a bag went, then another sensor, the valve driver pack went south too....drivers window wouldn't close, the Sunroof wouldn't reset EAS kept going into fault, but then all of a sudden work again....etc etc...after 2 years I had to get rid due to rising fuel costs due to a change of job.....

My others have been from indys and private sales...

Used Approved does offer some safeguards against certain things and you should get a good length warranty if they believe in their product, but with all secondhand purchases, there are always risks...

I think approved used now come with a full monty 12 month guarantee and main dealers will usually sort any issues because they will be paid by Land Rover.

But this is usually built into the price because you will pay for the privilege with a main dealer car and pay over the odds.

I've owned several Discos/Rangies over the years and would say I've done better financially when buying privately or from an independent dealer. But I have been lucky because nothing major has gone wrong with them.

I think if I was spending loads of dough I would definitely consider an approved RR. But one mans 'loads of money' is another mans small change, so ultimately the choice is down to you.
