Hi,
I represent Swimtruck - a small charity developing a high-mobility 4x4 for a Madagascan mission hospital. We bought an old Disco bobtail as a test vehicle but it's time to get it sold. I've changed the clutch and gearbox and replaced the crank rear seal at the same time. Unfortunately the rear seal is now leaking much worse than before :(

I'd rather entrust it to someone who knows what they're doing than to a garage. Would anyone in the Derby area be willing to take it on, and if so, for what price? I'd gladly pay £150 plus parts as I don't think it will fetch much if I try to sell it with oil dripping out of the wading plug at this rate.

It's driveable and not immediately urgent - discovered it as I was taking it for MOT (no great surprise there). The truck is otherwise sound - recent timing, lift pump, gearbox, rear diff, brake pads... so depending on the MOT test this should be the last piece of the puzzle.

Thanks for the welcome! Wasn't leaking massively before I got my hands on it :( so it may well be the pig's ear rather than the T seals. I thought I fitted it properly (used threaded rod to guide it in, didn't take the plastic guide out of the seal prior to fitting, etc - suspect it's the gasket face that isn't behaving as I didn't smother in sealant, but the evidence clearly suggests that I'm not qualified to make such judgements!

No :)
The idea was to create an amphibian as the roads over there flood. It made sense to pick up something rough, bodge together something that would float and get some experience of what worked / broke before spending proper money on the real thing. Since then, we've taken a different tack, so this Disco has just been sitting idle.
