L322 Anyone want to watch an L322 burn?

I can also buy face lift model `08~ for about 11k also with rebuild transmission etc but that's top of my budget and I am afraid that it will swallow same amount of money for repairs.

TBH because of this thread I almost bought Pajero Dakar from 2005 last Sunday but when i drove it and heard the noise this 4 cylinder diesel made I knew this wasn`t a car for me for a daily commute.

If you want reliable, buy a Toyota!

You want a jap truck for reliability. Basic but should be reliable.

Or an old P38 (spannering to start) / Classic (welding). Both will require some work to get straight but then are fairly easy to keep that way, albeit parts are cheaper in the UK as so many are being broken.
 
My mate has a diesel Toyota landrcruiser, takes it scotland and gets around 30 mpg and has had it from nearly new and i think he is around the 150K miles mark now. when i asked him what he has spent on it he said he thinks the brake discs were changed on one of the services......

Yes, that would be pretty typical of Tojo ownership experience, but of course it is claimed the Toyota is just a truck and has no "soul", where a RR is like a beautiful woman, a joy to possess but can break your heart badly, and empty your bank account quickly.
 
Range rover used to be like that, now it has to be computer controlled and that is where the problems start.
300tdi rrc is better than the toyota but you cannot use that engine anymore, L322 with a 300tdi is not allowed, just as a toyota with a 13 year old engine design with no engine management is a thing of the past.
This is why anything pre 95 with a land rover badge is so popular.
Then came the :mad:P38:(.
 
My mates TD5 defender has been good and when i fix it for him the parts are so cheap. i have only really done service parts and a rocker cover gasket in years.
Admittedly it drives like a massey ferguson and quite a few have been stolen but i do like it. i had a series 3 swb a while back and the parts for that were virtually free :)

I still think a 29 year old 110 would look good on your drive in place of that TD6 .......
 
It was a snapped crank after all. I sold it to Pinewood Studios for use in the latest James Bond film, but that was delayed and it was blown up in the last Fast and Furious instead. The mechanics at the special effects place removed the engine to fit the pyrotechnics and they sent me a pic of the crank snapped in half. If I can find it when I get back home I'll post the pic.

I loved that car, but she broke me. Don't tell the wife, but I'll deffo get another one :)

Saying that, it was cathartic to watch her get destroyed on an IMAX screen, even if it was only a few seconds on screen at most.
 
Mate, I am sooooo sorry you first foray into L322 ownership was fraught. I would never have thought in my wildest dreams that the engine was going to go bang. It needed some suspension work and the gearbox needed looking at, but as far as I knew that engine ran sweet and had never given me any cause for concern.

If I had known the engine was going to go south, I would never have sold the vehicle in a public arena such as a forum and in such a public way.....I am so sorry for all the heart ache you have had with it.

By chance, was it one of these?

No worries Ant, I trusted your judgement when I bought it, and still do now. I've never had any seller go over a car and its history with as much detail as you did, which is why I was more than happy to pay your asking price - something I've never done in 20+ years of car ownership.

The scene it was destroyed in was at night. There's a few rangies parked in a row and mine was either the first or second to be hit.

I'll have to get it on DVD when it comes out and give it a watch.

Again, I am so gutted for you....Range Rovers are very much a 'Love/Hate' thing.....you had about 6 months of this relationship from February til September before it went south (with some time in between while you were getting things fixed!) I remember buying that one and in the first 4 hours it was off the road for 3 days while I fixed a constant CANbus issue dragging down the ABS/HDC/DSC/EAS systems....they are such fun at times.

When it worked, I absolutely loved it, but when it didn't I absolutely hated it. There were times when I wanted to take my shotgun and shoot the crap out of it, but then I'd get it fixed and all was forgiven.

If I lived where I do now, I'd have kept her and thrown a recon engine into it, but I had neither the spanners nor the space to do that (or the inclination to be honest).
