Not really surprising if you consider than for years we could buy tyres that came over as part worns from Germany due to the fact that they were still within their legal limit in the UK.

Do they still sell them?

Buy the best you can afford ;)

Yes - they still sell them - eBay dealers have them literally by the truckload coming in from Germany and Austria every week.,

They're also exported south to Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia and Bosnia - where the minimum of 4mm tread on a winter tyre rule doesn't apply.

State-of-the-art tyres are fantastic - scary limits of adhesion.

Best not to try them - as you'll never be satisfied with what you presently think are great tyres.

Just like binoculars - don't even try the £1500 ones if you intend buying ones at £300 - you'll never be happy with the 'cheap' ones afterwards.

Just don't criticise or laugh at the birders whose enthusiasm for clarity and optical excellence leads to them buying the best! :der:

Whatever tyres you've got - take care and stay safe.

SV.

i do 15k a year on mine, most of the time with my children in the car.

so safety is a main concern, not my wallet but as SV says "Whatever tyres you've got - take care and stay safe." :)

If the best you can afford are part worn from abroad you shouldn't really own a Freelander.

I got my eye on General Grabbers AT when mine need replacing or I may get a complete new set of wheels with tyres and put winter tyres on the steel's

What I didn't know until last year is that the rubber compound of winter tyres is formulated not only to give you the grip you need in the snow but they will also stop you up to 10m quicker than ordinary tyres below 7 degree.
When taking safety into account that is an excellent reason for a set of winter tyres
