My vehicle is spewing a bit of oil from the front cover of the above pump, the cover is rivetted in place, and i expect the gasket is leaking, (not the one to the block) i was wondering if anyone had taken one apart and if so could i reseal the front cover to main body ????
the pump works well and doesn't tick so not worn,
i am a competent mechanic but have never taken one apart
Cheers Billy

Billy,
I haven't done it myself, but I have heard that other people have drilled the rivets out, cleaned it all up, resealed it and then riveted it up again.

yep you can apparently, there was a link to a photo guide on here recently. Try a forum search. I probably bookmarked it as I have the same problem but I'm not on my own computer at the mo. Was pretty straightforward as I remember it - just drill out the rivets, clean and seal and then this particular one used small nuts and bolts with locking washers and/or loctite to put the top back. Hard bit (for me!) is figuring out an esay way to find tdc before removing the pump. Never did, so never fixed it, done 1000s of miles with it leaking. Carport's a bit splatty but at least nothing at the front end of the car is rusting! :D
cheers
Rich

When mine started leaking I took the coward's way out and replaced it, but I "forgot" the bit in the Haynes book of lies about TDC. It all went back together ok and has worked ever since

cheers all, tried a search but got shedloads of unrelated answers, just wanted to make sure there wasn,t a 1000lb spring( lol) behind the cover , have repaired pumps from jap makes but not tdi's
