My TD5 has just had a service and MOT. I am being told by the 4X4 specialist that the clutch is shot. I have had no problems with it but he says it is not as smooth changing gear as it should be and I have just got used to how it feels.
In my experience, when a clutch is going, the bite gets progressively higher until the clutch starts slipping but this is not the case with mine.
He is saying a new clutch fitted is about £400, Unless the "Dual Mass flywheel needs changing, that would then be £800, and driving it as it is will eventually wreck the flywheel (If is not already wrecked), so the sooner I get it changed the more chance of a £400 bill not £800.
I am also told that it has a misfire as well and needs connecting to a computer (I suspect "Textbook") to find the cause of that. I just thought it was a bit sluggish.
I would like someone local with a TD5 to have a drive in mine and give me a second opinion before I shell out some of my childrens inheritance.
