The main filter sits on top of the sender unit in tank. You have to remove the sender unit then remove the filter from it.
Not one of the easiest jobs to do, are you sure that you need to change It.

So desperate but does anyone know where the fuel filter is on 1.8 petrol freelander sreg

haven't you read the thread, the filter is within the fuel pump/sender unit fitted in the fuel tank.....

I have watched the video on you tube. I have removed the fuel pump. There is no filter in the top part of the pump as shown on the video. The rest looks the same as in the video. Do you think it has been removed by the previous owner and never replaced? Had the freelander now for 3 years. There is no spring either. :(

Hi Mel, (presuming its a 1.8 petrol)

Yes, it looks like someone has bodged it.

Not sure about the spares availability on the spring. I advise you go for a genuine land rover fuel filter canister, as the aftermarket ones dont always fit properly.

As above, the fuel pump is in the tank. It has the sender unit on the side and the fuel filter is in the upper section. I'm pretty sure that filter is a necessary part of the plumbing to get the fuel to the injectors. Otherwise there will be a dirty great gap in the fuel delivery system - pun intended.

However, someone may have done a mod. On some Rover cars there is a small canister filter in the engine bay fire wall.

+1

Its a wonder it ever ran properly (if it is a petrol!).

Having been very intimate with my fuel pump a couple of weeks ago (in and out about 5 times), it would appear very easy to bypass the fuel filter - in fact I was tempted myself just to test the effectiveness of the rubbish filter I'd bought.

All it would need is a small pipe to connect the in/out connectors that fit into the filter - I wonder if that's what the previous owner did to this one?

Can you provide a photo?

Or as Longbolt is suggesting, if it's a TD I don't think the filter is in the pump...

Yep, running sweet.. Still trading up though, possibly to a facelift TD4, as late plate as I can get..

Failing that some other 4x4 - mishy or summat. Hoping to spend less than £5k
