Hi,

I've just bought a new flatbed trailer and my 2002 Range Rover already had the VUB000730 detachable tow bar fitted, but its too low down for the trailer to sit level.

I have seen the multi height towbar VUB000720 but before I spend over £300 on it, I want to make sure it goes up high enough (I need 46cm from ground to middle of towbar ball).

Does anyone have one of these on their RR and could measure the distance from the ground to the centre of the towing ball if it were on its highest setting??

Many Thanks in advance to anyone who might be able to help!!

Regards, Matt

u couldnt have a towbar low enuff or high enuff for that matter for a 4 wheeler to be a 2wheels :p, too much empahsis put on that one i think

When you fit a trailer the air suspension is locked out so that isn't an option!

Yes, its a four wheel trailer and with the tow hitch being too low the back wheels on the trailer dont take as much weight as the front two, so the front two get much hotter with the 2 ton weight I'm towing.

Also, as only the front two wheels are taking the main load, the weight on the tow hitch is much more, and the trailer snakes more at higher speed.

So ideally I would like to get the trailer level to fix all those things!

Dealer is trying to find out from the factory the top height of the mutli height tow bar, although even they dont seem to hold out too much hope :(

You can lock the suspension on high I think, select high then press the lock button and it stays put:D

Really? My Bateson trailer runs on 2 wheels when coupled to the Rangie, I have a moveable hitch on the Trannie on it's lowest position to accomodate it.

just pull it, if the two front wheels pop then you have the same amount of time/miles till the back two pop, obviously this will need proper calculations doing!!!

Ah it can also break the trailer A frame as my mate found out when his trailer went straight on at a bend:eek::eek::eek: Leaving the A frame and the security link still attached to the car. Quite funny really as no one was hurt to see the trailer dissapearing into a field:):):)

I just went out and measured the one on my 92 RR the lowest setting is about 18 inches from the ground and the highest is about 25 inches from the ground.
That includes moving the ball on the plate from its highest to lowest position not just sliding the plate up and down,
My suspension might be a little high as I `ve got the ECU out at the moment.
I'll take a couple of pics when I get my camera back on Tuesday.
Just went out to have another look my suspension is about 3 inches higher than it would be in normal mode so just subtract 3 inches from those numbers.
So the long and short of it is that it will do 46cms easy.
Hope this helps.

I do have one that i use with a TraxxRax Cycle Carrier.

Unfortunately i can't take any measurements since i swapped my Euro Trailer Hitch for a NAS Trailer Hitch this week (in order to add accessories such as D shackle receiver or portable winch setup).

I would advise you to swap for the NAS Trailer Hitch too since you can benefit of a very common US hitch receiver and have an unbelievable choice of multi-height tow bars or tow accessories. Those guys over the pond tow a lot.
(you can have it in standard, stainless steel,... )

I used northerntools.com website for the multi-height tow bar and i paid something like 120 euros including shipping and tax duties.

I paid 100 euros including shipping and tax duties for a 2nd hand OEM NAS Trailer Hitch coming from California.
If you want the PN of it, i may provide it.

Cheers

Tis an offence to fit a non E type Approved towhitch to a vehicle first registered after 1st August 1998.

As a contract lawyer i must say you're absolutely right about the law:rolleyes:

However, in practice in my country, cops or MOT do not have instructions to check every tow hitch fitted on vehicles (especially if they are Land Rover OEM parts). I even think they ignore existence of NAS type tow hitch on any vehicle.

Look around and you'll see US trucks legally imported to Europe with NAS towhitches and there's no problem at all.:)
Was it a special registration? I don't know.

For my occasionnal use, i see no problem at all
