Stupid question I know but I'm good at them

My 300tdi sump is leaking, in fact its almost rotted right through at the front.

Bought some chemical metal stuff thats supposed to stick anything to anything else, but the oil is still weeping round the edges.

So to the point, has anyone got a sump for a 300tdi motor they're prepared to offer to a good cause - keepin me mobile.

Trawled eGay but nothing and stealers want a bloody fortune.

cheers peeps

Might be worth trying some of that fuel tank repair resin you used to be able to get from halfords as a temporary fix. My old man fixed the diesel tank on his old RRC with it - worked a treat and lasted for years. That chemical metal is OK but needs good conditions to go off. The repair putty dries rock hard and is designed to work in oilier conditons. Just a thought.

i agree with MHM, that chemical metal stuff would have worked IF everything had been spotlessly clean and had been throughly de-greased

what's wrong with MIGing a bit of plate over it ?

I have exactly the same problem with the 300tdi that just went into my 90 (its getting one from another 300tdi put on now) but at the time I was thinking of dropping it cleaning it all out and welding it up, I was also going to put some protection on it.

Another option I had if I going to be short on time was to clean the whole thing up really clean, grind it down to bare metal and fibrelgass the whole thing from the lip where the bolts go right down and under, I would have put some glass firbe matt onto it and it would have done a brilliant job and would never rust again!

Fibreglass is oil, petrol, diesel, heat blah blah resistant. I have used it to repair diesel tanks on a plant water pump I have (stuck the tank in the dishwasher after I had ran a hose through it for a few hours). That was about 5 years ago and its still holding strong.

I think the cheapest on ebay at the moment is about 70quid!

Also remember to get a tube of RTV for refitting and remember most of that stuff is 24 hour dry time.

The guy that sold me the engine said he would replace the sump because it was sold as good, so he took it off and then texted me to say he is also fitting a new oil pick up, still to find out what was wrong with my old one but bear in mind this sort of thing in case you get it stripped down and discover you need something like that.
