Hello all.

I'm looking to replace my air springs and bladder, front and back...

The current rubber looks well and truely perrished! :(

Thanks to mirrorsingalswerve and others- after searching the many threads about air suspension i found both these sites very useful especially to the unititiated...:)

Land Rover Reset Tools

Air Spring Replacement

Anyway - I've decided to keep the air rather than go to coils...:cool:

So my actual question in this thread is - has anybody fit the Arnott Range Rover P38 Suspension Air Springs? And if so, other than the amount of cash:eek: ...whats the real difference between the generation II and III kit?

Cheers all...

Mark

I fitted Arnott Gen 2's and I'm vey happy happy with them, I think they are a little more supple then the OEM srings.

I think Arnott Gen 3's provide longer travel but unless you are a serious off roader probably not worth the extra. If you then accept the the P38 is not really suitable for serious off roading with all it's electrofrickery they are not worth considering in my opinion.

Thanks Datatek...

Couple of other questions then;

How easy did you find changing themover? Are they literally a straight swap for the current parts?

Did you need to buy any other bits and bobs?

Reading some of the other threads / websites it looks fairly easy to change them (i'm sure mine won't be!) with some people claiming to be able to change a unit in 30 mins!

I fitted Dunlop replacements.

Fiddly but not difficult to replace.

Be prepared for clips to be rusted in place and a pain to get out.

Follow instructions and can't go far wrong.

I just did a wheel at a time and then move onto next one, I had assistance froma mate who'd done before so easier but he didn't have too many probs when he did it first time.

Really glad I did it, ride feels better and not worries that a bag is going to go and leave me stranded and I don't have to wait for bags and air tank to fill each morning when the air has all leaked out as I did have to.

They're the kind of messages I like to read!!

I'm gonna order some then and get em on the car next week. I'm down in Devon visiting the folks so can press gang my brother into help.

Buying them off ebay unless anyone knows a cheaper place?

Got mine from Island 4x4 but don't know they sell Arnott's so Ebay probably best best, remember to order a new spring kit for each airbag.

Have a long hooked tool to hand to try and pull out rear or if they break have a long thin rod such as metal meat skewer or similar to be able to punch the broken spring out the back.

I found that the rear bags also stuck to the top plate even when spring was removed so a piece of metal bar that could fit in the small gap to force the bag down was useful.
Don't bother removing rear wheel arch liner as it doesn't give you any extra space.

If you do decide to remove front liner then the centre plastic piece is carefully prised out and then rest of plastic holder will come out, don't try to remove in one piece or they'll just break.

To be honest I can't understand why you would replace the airbags with coils I think they're a great invention and not that difficult to get working properly.

Island 4x4 don't supply Arnott's, only Dunlop (OEM parts) but they are the cheapist supplier on the net as far as I know, they can also supply the retainer clips, no point in trying to re-use the old ones.

I fitted the complete set and re-calibrated the ride heights in about 4 hours.

Clips were not required on my 2001 model, thery were rust free.

Do a visual check to see their condition.

I went with Dunlops all round. They do the job well enough.

My old air bags had plastic end caps so the pins came put easily, if yours have alloy end caps, they could be a right bar steward. Definately fit new retainers. I got my Arnott Gen 2's from P38 spares via Ebay, at the time there was only a few quid difference to the Dunlops. The exchange rate might have affected that.

I got the Arnott II kit and a bag of clips just in case...

Will let you know how it all goes....

Cheers everyone:D:D:D

A bit late chiming in with this if you have ordered already, but I have been using Arnott Gen 3's for the last 6 months. The most noticable difference from OE or Gen 2 springs I have found is on twisty roads and roundabouts, they certainly keep the RR flatter with far less body roll. On the straight and narrow much the same as any air spring. My main concern before purchasing was the benifit of better road holding would be off set by a harsh ride, but this has not been the case. I was also lucky as I got mine second hand (virtually brand new) off e-bay for the same price as OE springs, a big deciding factor because brand new at the time was approx £500 with shipping from the US.

OK been looking and 2 b honest I don't know what clips I need for this, I even found R clips, do I need them as well?

The link you've posted is for P38 Spares.co.uk.

When I bought mine, I just rang them and asked them to match their ebay price which they did.

They should be able to tell you (and supply) which clips you need.

I got replacement Dunlop OEM airbags from Island 4x4 for my EAS Classic.

Question is, are you just getting the replacement rubber bladder, or the whole assembly inc top and bottom plates? The latter is more expensive but, apparently, easier to fit.

I got just the rubber bladders, still quite a straight forward job but MUCH easier with a vehicle lift. Search my threads for details.
