Anyone changed a TD4 Injector?

Hiya guys & Girls I gotta problem, done the usual searches and cant find nothing so.....

car starts fine drives fine until you boot it after ya finished playing trying to outrun RR sports,,, on idle it starts to idle very lumpy and shakes the whole car, now I have un plugged each injector off whilst running and it gets a lot lot lot worse untill I get to No:3 injector and then you hardly notice anything - so.. I am presuming that its this injector thats faulty

Ive just changed the fuel filter as I thought that was aporblem but no difference.

But... after 10mins of stopping and starting again its ok and doesnt do it if you pootle round, I know I know im gonna get a back lash of all you saying just pootle around in it:rolleyes: but I think this is just a potential problem ready to come out when I decide to take it on a long journey with the kids!

PLEASE HELP!:(

its a 2001 td4 auto with 115K on the clock
 
like you say when u disconnect an injector you should notice the difference so if there is no change then poss injector fault,
not seen any injector wiring faults or ecu out puts to injectors,

there fairly easy to change unless its seized in its port then things will get tricky.

if its no 3 then you will have to remove inlet manifold (flat blade screwdriver 10mm 11mm sockets)
5 mm allen key to remove air cleaner holder,
17mm spanner for injector pipe removal
remove injector harness and back pressure fuel pipe,
8mm socket to remove injector retaining nuts,
then if you have no female torq sockets then you should be able to prise the injector out

only rough guide but should be enough to see ya through
 
ya can try injector cleaner first , has worked for me on other doozles, disconnect ya fuel filter [you can change it at same time if ya want] and pour a load in the canister [this way ya ain't gonna rake all the ****e in ya tank] un run it till you clear the canister [ bout 20 miles should do yer , it will smoke a bit ,but dunt worry. . . .if that dunt elp then its injectors out jobby [ 24 hour soak wif penetration is highly recommended] . . . .let us know how ya get on. . . .un best oh luck :)

has anybody needed to buy new injectors???
 
Well Im at my wits end! I have tried to remove the injector with every force available, impact hammer with modified levers , levering it out , the studs have now snapped off wd40 soaked for three days wiggling it from side to side.

It looks like Im gonna have to connect the lot up now and see if the compression from the explosion from the engine chamber might help.

Thats if it will work considering the amount of crud thats been flying about for the past three days

Please is there any one out there that has another idea?

I hate to say it but my faith in the BMW engine has been severily depleted in the last three days!:mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad:

worst of it all is that I have had to borrow my brother in laws disco tdi and thats driving bonkers its so slow wallowy its like a battleship with wheels, but..... at least its still going! arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
 
hi there before you start taking drastic measures there is one simple thing you can try, get some cheap coke , thats coca cola, and fill up the chamber around the injector and leave it over night then try pulling it out again,

its eats into the carbon build up around the injector thats holding it in

Not to disappoint you but on the U.S.forum there was an Australian guy who had the same problem, an injector not willing to come out, it ended up he left his Freelander at the garage as they asked almost the price of a new engine. (Think they damaged the head etc.. trying to remove it). A Belgian guy who used to drive a FL as well and who is working part-time in a garage specialised in injection systems and turbos said that ALL diesel cars suffer of this problem, MB not in the least ..... and he advised/suggested to undo all the injectors every 30.000 kms or so to avoid the deposit of too much crud with the here present problem as result...:eek: :eek: :eek: :eek: (I've done 60.000 kms but not touched them either, so .......:( :( )
 
I did the coca cola thing first off as my local friendly parts manager at LR suggested but to no avail, Im still trying tho I have made a weird and wonderful contraption to try and prise it out with a home made slide hammer with a 5kg weight on it, if that dont work and I dont break any more pullers I will try 10kg! failing that Im gonna do a Basil Fawlty!:D :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :eek: :eek: :rolleyes: :rolleyes: ;) ;) :D :D :D :D

This is also true if you surf any of the Beemer forums, it seems a common fault...:(
 
Im gonna put in copperslip when I assemble it if and I mean a big IF I can remove the injector, but so I am told by numerous garages its the carbon build up around the bottom of the injector that gives the problems, so copper slip wont really help much.......

That's why Ray (the Belgian guy) suggested to remove the injectors every 30.000 kms, to avoid that build-up of carbon.:eek: :mad: :mad:

They dont tell you that in the servicing now do they!

I hate BMW!

It seems that everything that goes wrong on these is to do with that german sad excuse of an engine!:mad:

My brother had to hold me off from doing the Basil Fawlty, YEP its still blooming stuck :eek: Ive now had to buy a banger to run around in
 
No! I just got it back last week....! and a second hand head on the car! they had to smash the rocker cover off and replace the injectors as they were all seized in, a friendly warning to all td4 owners ensure that you can remove injectors! I have just spent nearly £2k ! :(
