Any thoughts on this mess up.

I just drained about 10 plus litres of very thin oil from the. Discovery 2. Is it possible that the garage put the.flush in and then forgot to drain it and just added about 5 more litres in? Will this knacker the engine? The car has been leaking oil on the drive

V8 or TD5?

Some synthetic oil looks and feels 'thin' but it still meets its viscosity spec ie 5w30. No wonder is spilling out of the engine with 10 litres.

Don't see what the engine has to do with it, petrol or diesel but as we know u have a D2 diesel.

Any smell of diesel in the old oil?

Sometimes known to suffer from "bore wash" - excess diesel from faulty injectors washing past the rings...

Yes.

Or coolant sometimes runs into oil.

I still have the old oil so will check that but the coolant level has stayed more or less static since I found my leak. I will have to monitor the oil levels like a hawk I guess.

I would have thought that you would have been able to smell DERV in the oil that u drained.

I g think. I would have noticed but can't say I did.

Can I ask what your coolant leak was? I'm loosing coolent but can trace the leak.

check the top hose where it enters the head. that housing can corrode allowing coolant to leak. then check seals on pressure cap, then check for hard hoses after a drive and bubbles in the header tank. could be head gasket. take it from me, you wont want to believe its that but get it done asap. i left mine too long and what would have been a £600 bill turned into £2000!!

i've learned my lesson the hard way.

Cheers. I think head gasket is ok, there is always a wet patch under the engine so I'm sure it's a leak. Checked main hoses and all I can see. No steam or obvious leaks.
Will check hose into head.

You were lucky the engine didnt run away and start consuming its own oil!

Mine had 13 litres in sump, oil/fuel mix, that was enough for it to start self destructing.

Could be the garage simply over filled it, did you talk to them?

What prompted you to drain the oil? When was it last changed?

Never used flushing oil myself, no plans to start!

I have spoken to the garage and they have said it is not a mistake they would make and in fairness I need to check to see if the sump starts adding to the amount that I have put in. It could be as you said, fuel leaking into the oil. Time will shortly tell.
An oil leak prompted me to drain the oil. One of the seals just below the acoustic engine cover popped out.
And on,y used flush as the engine was manly. Possibly a not so clever move.

I would imagine the garage would say that though don't you think? The alternative would be "oh yeah I suppose we could have been stupid and done that yeah"
