any near lincoln?

mornin peeps,

I'm after trying my hand at green laneing when I get my disco (sometime this week) Having looked at lincoln council's definitive map the closest seem to be near market rasen Which I don't mind too much but I could do with some advice from people who've driven them:

The disco's standard and as far as I know has only got road tyres on it at the moment. I'll be going with a friend of mine but we're both new to it so we need to keep it pretty tame for now, but saying that I'd still like a bit of a challenge.

Anyone got any suggestions? I'd imagine they'll be pretty easy around here anyway as it's so flat but I'm sure it would be better to hear from somebody who really knows what's what.
 
Trouble with those lanes, if they're the ones through the forest, is they are a tad rutted and can get extremely muddy and boggy and can be a tad awkward for standard Discos, or Defenders even!

Too much use, maybe? ;)

If there's two of you it's not too bad so long as you have good recovery points and ropes etc to pull yourselves out!

Thanks Paul, that's the sort of info I was after - probably a bit much for a novice in a standard disco then, not to mention my mate in his warrior :doh:

Any recommendations, given our current circumstances?

It's a route I do every so often, checking they're still open etc and haven't been since Jan11th, so if you can wait till Saturday/Sunday 30/31 st this month I could take you round the same route, but change it a bit so we finish near Retford, which would be closer for you to get home from.

Read the threads first and look at the pics, it's a bit scratchy in places but interesting, mostly dead easy with some twiddly bits as well and only maybe two places you might get stuck if it's been raining for a week beforehand. Three standard Discos, two Range Rover Classics and a Nissan X-trail, all with road tyres have done all the route, though the Nissan needed a bit of help one one track. (Edge of a field and extremely muddy 'cos half ploughed up)

Good intro to laning ... ;)

I ought to start charging for this intro route !!! ;)

Is anything happening with them?

The website and forum only seem to have 'incidents' dating back to 2007, and I can't find a website for Yorks-Lincs4x4response either!

Been wondering if it's worth joining .... Got a couple of mates in Northants4x4response and in the Peaks but there seems to be notalot for round here .. not that there's ever much to do here anyway, I guess .. ;)

They've just expanded their area to cover Lincs, Nottingham & sherwood forest. and have recently changed their name to reflect the area they now cover. Not sure what'll happen about the forum name. Presumably they'll be changing that shortly as well. I was out during all the snow we had recently. as were most of the other members. the 2 main trouble spots were round Caistor on the south bank and Pocklington/Drifffield on the north bank. Over 100 cars & trucks were rescued in 1 night.
 
No worries, think I'll join anyway then. Did a bit myself during the floods last year round here and often pull cars stuck in the ditches round here .. might as well do it with insurance and proper training!!

Lol, yes mate, I'm sure I'd be up for that. Gonna replace the head gasket on the disco when I get it and would like to have a bit of a nosey round to make sure everything's relatively sound but I'll give you a shout if I'm all sorted in time. Thankyou very much!

Well,

Got it, and it's all sorted (changed the head gasket). Took it for a wee experiment on the lanes near market rasen, I gave up on the first that I tried - it got a bit too much for me but the others that I tried were good "clean" fun.

I had a couple of problems though, The electrics on the tow bar took a bit of a beating (the metal figure 8 thingy), Not too sure what to do with that at the moment. And the side step things are also a bit of a hinderence so I think they'll be coming off.

I must admit though, I REALLY enjoyed my afternoon out! I used low range and diff-lock at times as I'm only on road tyres and they're not exactly brand new :rolleyes:

Tow sockets need moving to the rear door just to the passenger side of the spare. Cable can be run thru the rubber tubing that carries the cables into the door. This will bring it out right next to the harness towbar Plug.

Yep steps need to go. Only real use is to stop biker scratching the paintwork when you side swipe them.:D

Lol, sorry don't know what happened there!

Thanks for the help, what do you attatch the electric's bracket to?

Forgot to mention my major misshap though, I popped a tyre on some sharp rocks :doh: just as well it was one of the two that are getting close to the legal limit and I've already got replacements for :cool: For those that know the area, that was on the lane that brings you out opposite "a local sports club".
 
Hey just joined the site, and I've a got a disco too. brothers both drive series, we're near alford and there are some cracking lanes over this way round the wolds.

Lincs green lane meet?
