While having part of my exhaust replaced the fitter drew my attention to the fact that the rear 'collar' surrounding the unit was a bit loose. The fitter was not trying to suggest anything was drastically wrong, just pointing it out (the centre don't do that kind of repairs anyway).

I keep an eye on the VCU for obvious reasons and all has seemed as it should be (tippex-test etc) and no driving characteristics of a problem either.

Should me and my wallet be unduly worried? (any more than usual anyway :))

mate, thats a whole lot cheaper than a new VCU !!!

The eBay descriptions says it can be done DIY, how straightforward is it?

(how nice it would be to have a step by step guide ......;) )

that is NOT a new VCU - just the damping collar, so if yo VCU is gubbered, that wont make any difference. to remove under 3 bolts, replace ring and tighten 3 bolts, I believe - it has been written up on here if you search.

Sounds like the 'Torsional damper' Lots of threads on it
