Hi.

This is my third attempt to get this post online so here goes!

My wife is the unfortunate owner of a 2001 Freelander V6 which has had a cooling problem for a while now, "here we go again" I hear you all say! Basically, it has randomly been overheating and losing coolant but there has been no visible sign of where the coolant has been going until last week when the engine sprung a major leak in our local Asda car park. Below are a couple of pics which show roughly where the leak is coming from. The coolant pours out as quick as it does to fill so it's a big leak.

It looks like it's coming from the back of the engine from just above the oil sump. Obviously the car is going to have to go to a garage for service but before I get shafted by a dodgy mechanic I was wondering if anyone may have had the same experience and knows what may have happened.

Thanks in advance,

Jon.

THe thermostat is prone to breaking. It is held in place by one offset bolt which causes uneven stresses in the plastic housing, which then shears where the sealing??? O ring is fitted into a spigot which fits into the head.

Thanks Mad Hat. Wow, have you got a full library of car part pics???! Do you think changing the thermostat & housing could be a DIY job or will it have to go in the garage?

Its a long story - you dont want to know :(

If I remember proper - its a bitch to get to - down in the "V" of the injun.
