Another tyre question

Hi,is there any truth to worn front tyres having effects on the drive train,as in,diff,ird,vcu, problems.:scratching_chin:

Yes, depending the the wear on the rear tyres.

only if the rears have worn more!

The fronts are down to 3mm may be less the backs are over 6,Ive had a whine for a while now, on and off but haven't had the time to sort it,just wondered if this was the problem as the whine is getting worse.

they should be ok as they are, if it was the other way round it could be problematic.

take off the prop and listen, if the whine disappears it could be the vcu/vcu bearings/diff.
If it's still there it could be the gearbox/front driveshafts

That shouldn't give any problem at all - at the moment I'm running 3.5mm on the front and 7mm on the rear.

Assuming the tyres are all the same make, pattern and size, everything should be OK to run them down to the legal limit. Then put new ones on the back.

The whine is almost certainly something else.

As Freelaner has said the most likely source would be the bearings either side of the VCU - usually the front one goes first.
