was going to bid for it meself, but spoke to insurance company first, kinda put me right off the idea.

it would be an extra £109 until renewal, then roughly twice that at renewal, plus my excess goes to about £550.

think I'll give it a miss.

I wonder why the Synergy would have such a dramatic impact on insurance premiums...

Have you done the ERG Mod ? what impact did that have on your Insurance Premium ?

I wonder how many people fit these units and do not declare it to the insurance company. How would they know one was fitted if they can be easilly removed, unless of course your vehicle was written off and towed away....... God forbid etc etc etc

the woman on the phone was really helpful, and explained how they calculate the uplift. they have a sliding scale, and it's based on the increase in bhp. as the synergy 2 claims to go from 111 to 144 bhp, that's a 30% increase. Or to look at it another way, you've eroded that design safety margin of all the other components, like braking etc.

egr doesn't increase bhp though.

Try a wee word with adrian flux (flux direct) at renewal time. Like you I was facing over £100 a year extra in premiums with just under £500 being the cheapest. I used GoCompare who gave Flux Direct at a shade over £300 but the chip decleration hadn't transferred over to fluxs website. I phoned up not expecting much joy but the premium only went up to £327, much cheaper than the previous year 'without any chip'. Know what you mean by the sliding scale though, as the synergy does take it out of the tame category.
