Hi everyone,
My rangie is over heating, have got to the point of buying a car to drive while i try to fix this problem. Now i have had it checked by a mechanic for gasket failure, all spark plugs were taken out and a presure check done and a sniff test and everything is ok, mechanic left it on idle for an hour and it did not over heat even took it for a spin and everything ok,i went out tonight and after say seven miles ping over heating then after that about every three or so miles over heating, stopping everytime to let it cool,,,one thing the mechanic did say was that the presure in the cooling system was about 12 or 20 percent higher than normal, would that indicate what might be at fault was going to buy a radiator for it to cross it out of the problem anybody got any idea's where to go from here system has been washed out and new coolant put in any help would be great

hi,im no expert but had same problem on a range rover a while back
did pressure test and sniff test, all showed ok but would sit and tick over all day if asked to , but as soon as you drove it and gave it the shoe, up the temp went, so to cut a long story short replaced radiator with a new one and it cured the problem

worth a try

thanks jimsnapon, will give it a go its an old radiator that's in the rangie and have read that the newer one's have a wider hole threw them giving less chance to block, like you say worth a try , thanks

Also check the viscous fan is operating properly. With the engine hot, stuff a rolled up newspaper into the blades watch your hands if the fan stops the viscous coupling is shot.

dont wanna **** on your fire but i had this with mine, same year and engine size, the engine is scrap in mine as its droped a liner,i tried irontite that failed, hope the new rad fixes your problems but be prepaired for a big bill if it dont, everything said above to be replaced was done on mine inc new water pump.good luck with yours

no mate diagnosed as a liner problem maybe a porous block, cooling system pressurises within 10 miles from cold then every 1-2 miles thereafter, the usual block sealers didnt work, new engine on its way then the other one will be striped pressure tested tophat liners fitted and rebuilt ready for when the new one fails:eek:

nope, changed everything on mine water pump/fan/stat/rad/cap/hoses flushed the cooling system and it still overheats like a bitch, one thing it got worse after the cooling system flush for some reason

thanks everyone ,received new radiator today , just waiting for the 36mm spanner to take off the fan , i hope it works with new radiator as the cash has run dry and the rangie will have to go (much sadness) but will let you know what happens by next week , thanks again..

just to let everyone know , new radiator did the job out for a test drive tonight and needle sat at twelve o clock all the way,, now on to the next , front wind sreen washers will not work and headlight washers , worked before i removed old radiator now nothing any ideas on this one,,,, must have pulled a wire when reaching up to connect pipes to thermostat housing maybe

good to hear mate:)

well done good to hear as to washers first try using with the bonnet up and drivers door open you will hear if the pumps are working that way you can eliminate the hoses then check fuse etc
